i would save money for your next trip. with money saved for a trip, you don't have to stress as much before the trip trying to save money. you can then use that money to upgrade your work attire.

I'd save the money for your London trip- London is very $$, and you'll definitely want to shop- especially for great clothes that you can't find here...

Agreed, you should save your money for the trip. I wouldn't necessarily spend it on the hotels because you don't really plan on being in the room terribly long. I would spend it on something that you will remember from the trip, like a day trip somewhere that you weren't planning on going to. Oh and if you find some fabulous pieces of clothing/accessories, you will be able to buy them and not have the regret of not getting it.

Upgrade one night to a fancy place, treat yourself to one nicer-than-usual momento, then save the remainder for your next trip. But you could justify the digi camera, since you do have a trip coming up.

However, I think you should definitely get the reform jewelry antler earings for me! I've been loving those forever.

Save the money for your trip, but don't splurge it all on hotels. Spend some money buying some amazing things in Europe that all the girls in nyc won't have already and then buy a couple of the smaller things you have been lusting after.

it's really fun to have an incredibly cool bag. I love the miu miu you picked out. as much as my fendi buckle bag was a totally frivolous purchase, I really love it. it takes an outfit to a whole other level, and it's just plain fun to have such a fabulous utilitarian thing. since the money was a windfall, you won't have the guilt of spoiling yourself with a to-die-for bag.

my second vote would be to fill in your wardrobe (which could be done fully or partially in europe too), and buy smaller fun things.

ETA: if you go for the bag, I hope you have enough left over for the digicam and/or antler earrings!

what a nice bonus for a weekend of work! i would say buy something you really want, and then save the rest for shopping on your trip and doing something special with your BF when you're together. i'm still personally unable to let myself buy a really expensive purse because i'm afraid i'd inadvertently destroy it (get caught in the rain, scratch it against something, etc.) but i *love* the first black one you posted.

First of all, that's really awesome you made $2k in one weekend. Wheeeeeeeeee!

I'd save the money to use in Europe. I like greendiamond's idea to stay in a nice place one night and to go budget the rest of the trip. I'd recommend going budget the whole trip and getting a fabulous place on your last night, so you have something to look forward to. And you can use the rest of your money buying some treats in Europe that would be harder to get here in the states.

I agree with the majority. Save it (or most of it) for the trip. You will find tons of things you'll want to buy overseas, and the exchange rate for the US right now is painful. Treating yourselves to a nicer hotel for a night is a good idea, as is the digicam. But I'd hold off on the shopping spree for now...once you're in Europe, you'll be so happy that you did. :)

cc - I also wanted to add my opinion on spending more money on a room. IMO a room is good for nothing more than sleeping and bathing. as long as there's clean bedding, quiet surroundings, clean towels and hot water, that's all you need - I can think of better ways to spend my money than on a room... JMO

MissMee - that's hilarious. Yet it didn't stop my lust for the bag!

D - That's my usual hotel philosophy but since I don't see my bf that often (when I meet him in London it will probably be the first I've seen him since June!) I prefer to upgrade a little bit since we do wind up spending a bit more time in the room than I normally would. Ahem. Anyway...another factor is that he's currently living in a run-down apartment in Utrecht with a shared bath so I thought it would be a nice treat to splurge a bit, especially since I'm going to be spending the last week of my trip in that apartment. A number of the London hotels I was looking at had shared baths - at the time I figured "hey for two nights I can deal!" but that's when I thought he was going to be a new apartment by the time I visited.

So I think I'm either going to do a nice hotel for our 2 nights in London or our 3 in Seville, or just upgrade my budget a little bit for both cities and hopefully stay out of shared-bath territory. Then I'll save the rest for guilt-free shopping and will try to keep my eyes peeled for work-friendly things. I also have a bunch of clothing to sell so maybe that can be used to replace my digi cam or to buy the antler earrings!

def. put at least a little of it towrd a nicer hotel. I've stayed at some pretty scary places in London and it was not fun at all. You don't enjoy your days as much when you can't sleep comfortably at night...
