j crew boots...
Permalink Closed

i've been trying to find riding boots for a WHILE now, and i've decided to just pay the near $300 and get the dressage refined boots.  I like that they are somewhat dressy, black, and have brass hardware- i want boots that look like riding boots and had a problem finding cheaper options that didn't look more "combat-y", if that makes sense.

Ok- so heres the problem- they are sold out of most sizes.  They only have backorder- extended calf black in a 9 (no 9.5 option at all in black), and regular size in black 9 (no option of bigger sizes).  Both are backordered- the reg. calf til december, the extended one til November.  I've found J crew runs big lengthwise, but i NEED these to be comfortable, and i often wear a size 9.5 (40 european).  Also, i have troubles a lot of times with calfs being too small- plus i want to wear these over jeans- but if they run big regardless, maybe the extended calf will be huge?  Can someone review sizing on their boots, the extended calf option, and whether or not you've seen these in person?  I don't want to count on a pair of boots working that I probably won't have for a couple of months (if at all!) when i really need them now.  but i don't want to spend any money on a pair that isn't right.  TIA!!

have you tried going to the jcrew store? i know they don't carry extended sizes in the store but at least you can try it on to guage tlast year i tried the extended calf version of a different boot and found it not that extended. as for the sizing i think it ran pretty tts. i wear a 6.5 so the circumference is smaller with smaller sizes, so maybe i am not a good reference.

also have you tried calling them over the phone? sometimes i find they can find things for you better on the phone vs. the web. they may not list it on the site if there is only one.

I don't have those particular boots, but I do have a couple pairs of J.Crew boots.  I love them, they are my absolutely favorite brand of boots.  The leather is so nice.  It is a steal for the price, IMO.  The pair I'm wearing today has gotten heavy wear for the last 3 winters and they still look brand new.

I'm not sure if this is standard but I measured the calf of both my pairs of J.Crew boots (extended calf) and they are 15" at the widest part of the calf.  They are pretty TTS through the foot part.

Have you tried calling CS?  The info about backorders is often incorrect on the website.

thanks girls- i called and they were EXTREMELY helpful.  They are store searching the black ones in 9 and 9.5, so i know what size works, as well as if the calf is too small.  And they also put me on the waiting list for both sizes in extended calf, just in case.  From the measurements, i think extended calf would work best over my jeans, the way i want it.  But we'll see.
