This is the first time I've watched Lost live. I've watched the previous seasons on DVD. Can I just say it SUCKS to watch Lost real time? Sooo many commercials, and nothing happens! I guess when I watch it on DVD it seems like a lot happens because I'll watch several episodes at a time.

They sure left a lot of questions unanswered, and brought up new ones that I'm sure won't be dealt with thill next season. Ugh.

ITA!  I had also only watched the DVDs and I usually watched 3 or 4 episodes in a row.  Watching just one episode (interrupted by a bajillion commercials) seemed really unsatisfying in comparison.

I actually really liked the episode.  I still like Jack though and I love having the plots so backstory-focued.

At the beginning of the episode when the Others were having the book club and I realized what was going on I was practically yelling at the tv "What the hell?!?!?!" over and over again.  I was in shock.  Craziness.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed too.  I really wanted more reaction to that magnetic energy thing that happened in the finale.  I also thought that the conversation between Henry and Kate was a little too vague.  The whole thing almost seemed....too imaginative and overdone?  I have faith that most of the episodes will be better, but I expected more from the season premiere.

And can they please show me some more Desmond and how about those guys who were monitoring whatever?

I watched it on Tivo last night, thankfully.  So many commercials!

I liked this episode.  I wish more had happened, but I really liked the bits with the Others.  Especially the beginning.  Once I realized it was Ethan fixing the plumbing, I started thinking, "The Others have CD players? A book club?!  Muffin mix?!"  I hope they explain who the Others are, how they got to the island, etc.  Clearly they still have contact with the rest of the world, or they wouldn't know that much stuff about Jack.

I really liked it. It wasn't as action-packed as I expected, but I think they're setting it up for the next few shows. Did anyone notice that the bookclub was reading a Stephen King book? I loved that b/c so many parts of this show remind me of Stephen King. Actually, I believe he's a ghost writer on the show this season for some episodes.

Anyway, I loved the Kate and Sawyer moment. Sawyer is hysterical, as always. And I'm still a Jack fan.

Here are a few questions that we actually got answers to in this episode:

  • Henry Gale's real name is Ben

  • The Others must have contact with the outside world since they have updated appliances, cd's, etc

  • There is an underwater hatch (this was suspected last before, but now it's confirmed)

  • The current Others aren't the original Dharma Initiative

  • There are definitely some psychological experiments going on with Jack, Sawyer and Kate- Sawyer is in a skinner box, Jack is in a Pavlonian-like situation with having to put his back against the wall to get food (but then he doesn't get any anyway) and we have yet to see what happened to Kate between the time she was on the beach with Benry and the time she was brought back to the cage by 'Zeke.'

Remember the shark from the season premiere last year, that had the Dharma Initiative symbol on it? That must have been from the underwater hatch.

Stephen King is a huge fan of the show, so it would be cool if he got to do some ghost writing.

Yeah, I was thinking that the fact that they seem to be kept in a zoo or animal testing facility (Jack in an aquarium, Sawyer and Kate in bear cages) kind of explains the shark and the polar bears.  Of course, it brings up the question of why there was ever a zoo on the island.

Last season when we saw the Dharma video, they mentioned one of the testing facilities was based on zoology, so that explains why there are strange animals on the island. I don't think it was actually a zoo. I think it was psychological tests on the animals and also testing of the adaptivity to different climates (ie, a polar bear on a tropical island).

I FINALLY had time to actually watch it. I thought it was great! I actually woke up this morning thinking about it.

Im not so sure henry is the mastermind behind it all. Who was the older women who showed up at the book club ? She seemed in charge?

I love this show ... *sigh*

I was just rewatching Season 2 today and I think the black horse that Kate and Sawyer saw might be part of this too.  Interesting....

Just so many unanswered questions but I keep coming back. I hope next week is better.
