Just when I thought we were done. BFF & I went to every single designer store in Vegas & she tried on seriously 50ish dresses. She ended up with this one which looked absolutely divine on her & we loved it, the sales associates loved it, etc etc. Fast forward 24 hours. At the airport I saw Charleze Theron has it on in this month's InStyle. So after seeing that picture & these of it at the runway show she freaks. It hits her beneath her knee (she is 5 ft 4) & the back where that sash ties- well, it dips down. To me it completely looked like it was supposed to do that - tailoring for this one never entered my mind - or the girls at the store. They have free alterations & told her what needed to be fixed on every single other dress other than this one, so I don't think they were out to get her or anything, you know? Now she is in a complete panic that A) it should be a mini & B) it shouldn't hang down her back.
She is thin & it is so flattering on her - the picture really doesn't do it justice. But she is a short girl & it's not a mini - which she didn't want to begin with, ya know? She really wanted something that hit below the knee & now she is doubting it...
What do you think? I told her that of course it wasn't going to look like it did on the model or Charleze Theron, it looks divine on her, and if she has it tailored that way she just looks like a girl that copied a runway / magazine look instead of wearing it like it fits her.
I think your BFF should wear it as the SAs and you saw it. I'm in 100% agreement with you. I think it looks odd as a mini and would have expected it to be knee-length myself. At that price point, designers will tailor and tweak designs for a special order all the time so of course there are going to be slight variations of the same dress floating around.
Charlize is like 5' 11"...a dress that's knee length on someone who's 5' 4'' will be a mini on someone who's 5' 11''.
I agree that she shouldn't have it hemmed. It is a beautiful dress (!) and I think it will look great as a knee length dress. The SAs are very familiar with the dress and they probably would have mentioned if they felt it needed to be hemmed.
thanks so much for posting those pixs! She will be so happy to see that it drapes down the back on the mannequin. It fits her more like that to be honest, maybe a little longer but still a great length. I hated Charlize's necklace with it too.

i think it's a gorgeous dress and she should keep it.
you know how in those celebrity mags they're always showing two (or more) people who wore the same dress...who wore it best? things...sometimes even the celebritis adjust or alter the way the dress was originally, and it always fits different people differently, i don't think it's a big deal...she's just putting her own spin on it!
Yea, so glad she found something! I agree with the others. I like the way it fits on the mannequin more so than on Charlize. I'm sure she looks beautiful in it.
Waiting to hear about your trip ...
