The leather is a true black IRL. It's not soft leather that you want to stroke all the time, but the leather does feel very sturdy and looks like it can withstand a lot.
There are a number of compartments inside the bag, as well as a zippered one on each side. I love compartments and organizing. I am planning to use this as a carry on when I travel to Atlanta next week.
The chain strap is fully detachable.
I think the only major design flaw in this bag is that there are no 'feet' at the bottom. It makes me nervous putting all that leather on any random floor or something. The other complaint is that the turn lock on the front feels a bit less sturdy than I would like it to be.
For $205, it's a really great bag though. It's one of the only black bags under $1k that I've been interested it.
Here's a pic of me carrying it. I think it looks better carried by hand rather than on the chain strap. I'm 5'3" and a size 4/6.
I got the bag in purple and LOVE it. I was happily surprised when I opened it up and the purple was actually a very very dark and rich color purpe. THe web site made it look fairly light and washed out - but it's an awesome dark purple/plum color.

Oooh, I would love to see some IRL pics if you get the chance!
And on lilykind it looks like the handles don't fit on the shoulder. Is this true?
