So, I got a "Marc Jacobs" dress on Ebay that I don't think is authentic. It also doesn't look like it did in the picture -- it's shorter and the waist seems to be higher. I emailed the seller and asked if she'd consider accepting a return if I paid for shipping, and said the dress didn't look how I expected it would in person. Maybe I should have said I doubted its authenticity, but I didn't want to get into that level of dispute yet.

Any advice for how to proceed? Would you leave neutral or negative for this? If she won't accept a return I could try to resell it, but I don't want to pretend I'm selling something authentic and then disappoint someone else. Do you think buyers would be interested if I said I had doubts about it being a real Marc Jacobs?

Hmm...did you buy it from China? Was it outrageously cheaper than it would normally retail for? I think there's some fakes on eBay that everyone just accepts as fakes and kind of buys knowing that. BUT..if it looks different than the photo they used to sell it you definitely have a case and eBay protects you.

Also, if you paid close to what it retails for, I would be pissed and I would definitely confront them about the authenticity.

Yeah, I did buy it from China and for cheaper, and kind of thought it wouldn't be authentic, but was basically going to accept it as long as it turned out okay in person. I've gotten a Marc Jacobs on Ebay from China before that is most likely a fake, but it was so well done that I don't care. On this one I feel less confident. What really bothers me are the discrepancies between the dress in person and in the picture, and the general not-as-niceness of the dress. I'll look into what Ebay can do to protect me on this one. Thanks!

I heard back from the seller: she was nice about it, but said she wouldn't accept a return and that me saying it didn't look the way I expected was not a good enough reason to send it back. This is my first experience like this with Ebay so I am unsure how to proceed. Should I write her back and say I don't think the item is authentic? Contact Ebay and file a counterfeit item claim? Just try to resell it? Advice is much appreciated!

Did she claim the item was authentic.  If so then you could go the authenticity route.  If she never said it authentic then I would go the item not as described route.  HTH!

Can you take pictures to prove that the item you received looks different than the photo she had in the listing?

And yeah..you should definitely file an iten not as described claim.

The fabric pattern looks the same, but the length and proportions are off, at least in comparison to the picture. I'll ask the BF to take pictures of me in the dress to see if that works.
