JCrew sweater pilling

I have totally had the same problem with my JCrew sweaters...over the years, I have bought a ton of their sweaters especially their traditional cable crew/turtlenecks and recently I have found that I can only get 1 winter season out of them. For the money, it is unacceptable yet I continue buying them because I like the fit, the colors etc. I've also had the same pilling problem with just about all their other types as well, merino, cashmere.

I don't know if it is the quality of the wool these days but JCrew is not the only brand I have noticed this with...it use to be that you could buy a "good" wool/cashmere sweater and it would last for years.

I have had some success "shaving" my sweaters...I place the sweater on a hard surface and take a *new* disposable razor and very carefully shave off the pills. This works best on a sturdier knit...it is a bit risky for thinner more delicate cashmere type sweaters...

what material are these sweaters made from? i've had some jcrew sweaters for a couple of years but haven't really had a pilling problem... my sweaters were 100% cotton, 100% merino or 100% cashmere.

i have to admit i have a sweater vest (the 'dream' sweater?) from this season that isn't much a dream, since i can feel it starting to pill. ugh.

My JCrew cashmere sweater from last winter was definitely pilling at the end of the season, I forgot about it until now.

I would love to buy more sweaters from there because the fit IS great, and they have such a great selection of colors and styles. But I am not forking over that money for one sweater that will not last at least a year.

I have brought sweaters to the dry cleaner and ask them to "de-pill" them and they have done it for me. I was scared to ruin it and they did a good job, but it still pills up again.

Yeah, I have this problem - big time. Which I solved by no longer buying Jcrew sweaters. Thanks for the tip about the dry cleanesr. I don't like the sweater shavers, so I um, spent a GREAT deal of time cutting each individual pill off with nail scissors.

I've never bought JCrew sweaters. But that sucks, especially since they charge so much for them!

I swear, sweaters are so freakin' expensive, and you don't always get what you pay for.

Use one of these. Works really good and makes your sweaters look new again. Plus it takes a lot less time than trimming each pill!

I've never bought sweaters from J.Crew before but was going to get the Dream sweater vest this fall, in case I was able to find it in green in the store. Now I'm not that tempted anymore. That really sucks!
