These are the best photos from my whirlwind France trip this weekend... the entire weekend was beautiful, gracious, and elegant. We ate lots of delicious food and drank superb wine and coffee and saw lots of beautiful places. But the best part was that my friend whose wedding it was looked radiantly happy. No one deserves it more than him.
1: Here's me on the plane, showing the full length of the reclinable seat... it was a charter flight with all business-class seating. (This is not what my life is normally like.) 2-3: After we arrived, we were whisked off to the Chateau de Chantilly, a beautiful, grand old chateau in the town where my friend's wedding was to be. We got a long tour of the inside and I took lots of nerdy architecture photos which I won't bore you with. But the best part was 4-6: the luncheon. They prepared a delicious lunch for us in Le Hameau, which was a charmingly rustic little faux-hamlet that the pre-revolution aristocrats had erected near the Chateau. Supposedly it was Marie Antoinette's inspiration for her version at Versailles. The lunch was inside the dining room, which is more beautiful than the pictures can show--the entire thing was painted in a delicate mural of flowers and gardens. The lunch was unbelievably delicious, and the highlight was sweet mixed berries with Creme Chantilly... a sweet cream so rich and delicate that I can't begin to convey how exquisite it was.
Then we had a dinner at Les Fontaines, which was a conference center near Chantilly where we were all staying. 7: The building where the party was is brand-new, but it's still absolutely gorgeous. 8: The dessert from the pre-wedding luncheon on Saturday.
9: After the ceremony we showered the couple with roses. I just love the huge delighted grin on his face. 10: BF and I at the reception.
D, it was a Muslim wedding. One of the countless thoughtful touches was that the program explained the parts of the ceremony and the meaning they had. Also the imam spoke a bit at the beginning of the ceremony about their faith (shia) and what the ceremony meant in the context of that and in the context of Islam in general. It was a very generous gesture to those of us who weren't familiar with it.
i totally do not believe you when you say your life is not normally like this...these pictures make you look like you do it all the time! hopefully the bride wasn't upset at how gorgeous you looked at the reception (and weren't you worried about putting your hair up? looks fab!)
i really want to go to Paris now...it looks amazing. (and i too would not be bored with architectural photos...after years of vacations with my dad the architect dragging us around to look at buildings of all things, i actually appreciate it)
Wow! You looked great! And Paris looks soooo amazing. Love that little rustic faux-hamlet, I wanna live in it. And I agree, it looks like you always jet-set all over Europe, you totally fit the part.
You look gorgeous and it seems like such a wonderful trip!
Was it annoying/difficult to travel with your boots on? I always want to wear my boots when I'm flying because they take up so much space in my luggage but I always fear it would be annoying to get them on and off going through security and then I'd probably want to take them off on the plane. Additional shoe query - what shoes are you wearing in the Louvre pic?
CC, the boots were actually easy to deal with, because they zip. They weren't the smartest choice in terms of comfort, but in terms of getting them on and off it wasn't a problem. And the shoes I am wearing in the other pic are these ones, which are Cole Haan I got from shoes.com:
