Dawn dishsoap.  Honestly.  It's been great at doing the prelimnary work of removing a stain, especially red sauce stains.  I've also tried it on fresh ink and then just now on some mysterious black mark that appeared on my new white shirt. 

Soooooo, if you're desperate to get something out of your clothing, try it!  I learned this one day at work when I spilled some of my lunch on me and had no actual stain remover handy
