Rockstar Supernova - Finale Tonight!

Anyone else still watching??  Laken, Halleybird - anyone?

So tonight is the night - who do we think they'll pick?

well, I definitely don't think it'll be the Lukas guy (can't remember his first name).

I also do not think it'll be Dilana (don't know how to spell her name)

I think Toby has a poppy feel to him, and I think Magni has an edgier more appropriate feel for the band, but he's not as "catchy" as Toby.

Magni seems like the most true-to-the-band choice, IMO.

I am still watching but I didn't see last night & I won't be home tonight - but I'll have them both on tivo. So I'll weigh in after I see both.

I am disappointed in who is left to be honest. I had really gotten to like Ryan & I thought Storm should have gotten kicked the week he went home. Then last week I thought Storm totally redeemed herself & then went home too. I'm not a fan of Lukas & Delina has fallen off of my good list. magni is just mweh for me. Toby - well I don't think he's that great but I think he will win.

That's all for now

i think magni may be the best fit for the band, but i hope toby wins.  he's so HOT, therefore i would only see them in concert if he won. lol.  plus, i like his original - it's been stuck in my head all day.

i don't think lukas (he scares me so much, sooo creepy) or dilana have a chance.  but i've been wrong before.  once.

Ok, I think I actually disagree w/most of you.  I think it's either going to be Toby or Lukas that wins.  I love Toby.  He's so hot, so entertaining and I think he has the appeal to front the band.  I also think the band really likes Lukas.  He looks the part, and they consistently have liked him.  So those are my top 2 picks to win.

I don't think Magni or Dilana stand a chance in hell.  I think Magni's a good singer, but the past two weeks he's bored me to tears.  I think he borerd Supernova too.  I don't think he fits in w/them at all either.  Dilana just lost her steam, though I've never liked her.

I could stand corrected tomorrow, but I say Lukas or Toby.  I don't know that I really care who wins because I can tell I will never buy Supernova's album..I think they'll probably be a flop for the most part.

i agree, but i have to say...if toby was singing, i would probably see them in concert.  plus i've had a crush on tommy lee since i was like 12, and i still think he's hot (though he disgusts me regularly).

you're right about lukas, though - they do like him.  but he's such a little troll.  oh - that just reminded me - whenever i see him i think he should be like 5'2", but then he stands next to other people and he's actually tall.  it weirds me out.

I think Lukas looks like a post nuclear holocaust monkey.

I think it will be Toby, but I am pulling for Magni or Lukas. I still really like Dilana, but I think she'd have a better solo career. I don't dislike Toby, but he seems a little generic to me. I think I like Magni because he seems like such a nice guy. I like Lukas for being crazy, even though he is a little monkey-looking. But if he doesn't get this gig, I think he has a MAC career ahead of him.

FWIW, I don't think any of them are a bad choice. They did a good job of eliminating this season.

Yay for Lukas! I still don't like Supernova's songs, but his presence in the band kind of takes away that generic 80s Metallica/Motley Crue vibe.  I still love Dilana, but am I the only one who thought she looked really shocked to lose? (Especially to Lukas, I think.)

I agree that the Toby thing was weird. Actually, the whole show was very poorly edited. It wasn't live, was it? On my channel, they randomly cut off Lukas singing the last song (before it was over), went to commercials, and came back for the end of the song.

Also, about halfway through, CBS aired a Survivor commercial that was playing Lukas' original song. That made me think that he'd won, even before they eliminated Toby.

No you're not the only one.  She totally looked shocked and pissed off to me.  I'm even more glad they didn't pick her - too big of an ego if you ask me.

We saw that! I think they accidentally aired the commercial early.

I also do not think Rockstar was shown live (there's too much swearing - they need time to dub it out), plus they usually make it pretty clear when a show is shown live.  I think it's probably shoddy editing.

DH said that is an insult to the monkey

I can't believe it. I have been waiting for him to get kicked all season. BOOOOO HISSSSS

Lukas just isn't what I expect when I think Tommy Lee & Jason/Metallica....and I expect them to be old metal rocker guys of old, not punky gay boy that should be in some grungy alternative band. Boooooo......

I really am bummed because I would love to see Dave's band & would have gone to a concert had anyone else won.

i think it sucks, given my feelings about lukas, but whatever.  he looked better with the sunglasses, i'll give him that.  and i agree with hb about a career at MAC - that boy can blend his shadows!  his makeup alwyas looks great, if a little overdone.

my bf told me yesterday that he heard they can't use the name supernova - i guess tehre was a lawsuit (i'll see if i can find it), and then i noticed during the show that anytime brooke would talk about the band it was "this supergroup" or "these guys" or "the band" so i'm wondering if it's true.  i'll post if i find any backup info.

so i don't know if they really can't use the name, but the lawsuit is real.

from mtvnews.com:

Supernova Sue 'Rock Star: Supernova' Producers, Bandmembers
07.11.2006 4:40 PM EDT

Punks file trademark infringement suit; evidence suggests producers were warned name was taken. Orange County, California, punk trio Supernova
Photo: Tenaya Hills Nine days before the July 5 broadcast premiere of Mark Burnett's "Rock Star: Supernova" on CBS, the three members of Orange County, California, punk trio Supernova — who formed back in 1989 and released four albums, including 2000's Pop as a

Weapon
— filed a lawsuit against the show's producers, charging trademark infringement.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Diego, names Mark Burnett Productions, Rockstar Entertainment Inc. and CBS Broadcasting as defendants, along with Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke — the three future members of the group this season's "Rock Star" is supposed to spawn and endow with a lead singer. After someone's chosen to front the band, the foursome will eventually record and release fresh material before touring the nation, all under the Supernova moniker (see "Supernova To Tommy Lee's 'New' Supernova: Hey, That's Our Name!").

The suit filed by the original Supernova — bassist Art Mitchell, drummer Dave Collins and guitarist Jodey Lawrence, who joined the band in 1994 — seeks a jury trial, as well as the destruction of all "labels, signs, prints, packages, wrappers, containers, advertisements, electronic media and other materials bearing the Supernova mark."

The band also wants the show's producers to "publish clarifying statements that [the show is] not associated with [the punk band]," and is seeking punitive and compensatory damages, attorneys fees and the "profits and all damages sustained by [the band] due to [the] misuse of plaintiff's Supernova mark."

In addition, the filing requests that the show's producers be prohibited from trademarking the Supernova name; the suit claims seven applications have been filed thus far for the band name, and another two for "Rock Star: Supernova."

Supernova, who have booked several live gigs for August and are in the midst of recording an album they'd like to release before year's end, claim in the suit that the "Rock Star" producers willingly ignored the fact that the Supernova name was and still is in use, and therefore, unavailable. The suit further alleges that "individuals within defendants' own organizations informed defendants of plaintiff's rights in the Supernova mark."

Perhaps the strongest bit of evidence supporting that claim comes from Butch Walker, who the show's producers recruited to co-write and produce the inaugural offering from the other, still-singer-less Supernova. In a MySpace message dated May 11, provided as an exhibit within the filing, Walker wrote, "I can't believe those dudes chose your name. For the record, I tried to talk them out of it. I told them I had a CD by a band from back in the day called Supernova and they were retarded for [using the name]. They didn't listen. Good on ya for making a stink about it."

The Walker correspondence, according to the suit, "clearly illustrates defendants' bad faith intent to willfully infringe plaintiff's Supernova mark." Upon learning that the show's producers had decided on Supernova as the name for the band anchored by Lee, Clarke and Newsted, the original band "demanded, and continues to demand, that defendants cease all such infringing uses" of the name. But, "defendants continue to knowingly and deliberately infringe" on Supernova's rights, which "has caused, and is likely to continue to cause, confusion and mistake among consumers as to source, sponsorship, and approval of defendants' goods."

In short, that passage says the original Supernova are concerned that people seeking their albums and merchandise might purchase the newer band's instead.

The documents further allege that the producers' use of the Supernova name will cut into the original Supernova's future income, as it will intentionally interfere "with plaintiff's business relationships," thus causing the band to lose "prospective economic damages," such as merchandising deals and offers to perform.

Calls to CBS for comment were not returned by press time. Likewise, the original Supernova's attorney, John Mizhir, could not be reached for comment.

t4p, asf! I thought it was weird that they didn't say "Supernova" last night.

The people on the televisionwithoutpity forums are saying that the final decision had to be re-recorded, because when they taped it originally, Dilana somehow thought she'd won. So that would explain some of the awkwardness. A good number of them also believe that the band picked Lukas from the start, and that the whole thing was just a big conspiracy stunt that the other contestants weren't in on. Some even think the Supernova album has already been recorded! I don't think I believe it, but I am a sucker for conspiracy theories.
