white after labor day???

i just wanted to know what you girls think about wearing white after labor day.  i hate following fashion rules and i like to just wear what i want to wear, when i want to.  so today, since its in the 80's in ny, i decided to wear a white tank.  i think i look fine but what do you girls think?

The white after Labor Day "rule" was thrown out long time ago.  It wasn't too long ago that white was a huge color for winter.

I never thought the no white after labor day rule applied to shirts anyway.  I think it mainly refers to summer only items like white strappy sandals, etc.  Why do you think they make white sweaters, those certainly aren't for summer.

I've heard that the no white after labor day rule is over.  But, I definitely think it's a generational thing.  The older women in my office swear that one cannot wear white shoes, pants, or skirts after labor day.  But, if it's hot out, the younger women wear white.  I think it depends on the weather and not on an old rule.

I wore a white beater yesterday. I plan to keep wearing my white jeans into the fall (with jewel toned tops, but still...)

If it's comfortable in the temperature, and not something obviously out of season (like a white eyelet dress in the middle of winter), you're fine. I don't know anyone who follows that rule anyway

I saw a woman in a white pant suit today and I was wondering about whites after labor day. It is in the 80's today, so I guess I could understand it as whites are less hot than darks. However, I just felt like it was a bit out of place. I can't explain it. Will I wear white shoes, pants, skirts now? I will consider it, but they will not be my first choice.

I just wore a white eyelit skirt yesterday. It was hot outside.

I wear white whenever the heck I feel like it. Rules were meant to be broken. Or at the very least, bent very badly.

I retired my white purse Monday. I just can't help it - I think it's more prevelant here in the south though & I just can't do it. I mean, it's cooled down to the high 80s, low 90s! It's practically fall

I say do whatever you want though.

it was in the 80s in hollywood and i was wearing a white wife beater and jeans with flips. apparently on hollywood blvd. there were a number of approving car honks so i will assume that it is safe to wear it.

i say screw the rules!

I never really think about it.  I am generally sick of my really summery things by the time Labor Day rolls around, but I feel like summer in LA lasts until mid October, so I think you should wear whatever you want.  Granted, I don't feel right in white shoes, so I don't wear them.  That might make me feel too summery?

You should definitely do whatever you want! I don't think that most people follow the rule anymore and even if the rule does exist, it certainly doesn't apply to shirts.

That being said, I did officially retire my white jeans until next summer. Somehow they just seem too summery for September but I'll miss them!

i'll wear white all year, but i can't bring myself to wear seersucker between labor day and memorial day.  like laken, i think to some degree it's a Southern thing...it just doesn't feel appropriate.  but i'm kind of like an old lady in some ways anyway...

I think that lightweight white pants/skirts should go away after labor day but if the pants/skirts are winter weight I think its fine

I will not wear linen and seersucker after labor day.

we had this debate at work this week
