What would you do?

I sold some curtains last weekend on eBay.  They were the cotton Pottery Barn Kids green gingham ones.  I stated that they were used, but freshly washed and ironed.  They still sold for $2 less than what they cost new in the catalog/store... go figure!   Anyway, the buyer paid promptly and I told her I'd send them out day before yesterday.  When I went to pack them up, they looked short, so I measured them and they shrunk!  Almost 6 inches in length and 2 inches in width per panel.  I didn't measure them before the auction, it just didn't occur to me that they might have shrunk.  My mistake.

I emailed the winner right away and apologized profusely.  I told her I'd ship them out to her if she still wants them, and refund her $10.  I also told her if she doesn't want them at all, that I would refund her all her money.  I asked her what she wants me to do.  I emailed her twice and no response.  Should I just go ahead and refund her the money?  If not, how long should I wait to hear from her?

hmmm...I'm new to EBay, but I would wait to see if she responds within 72 hours.

I did the same thing though...I didn't look over something I was selling and I realized as I was shipping that there was a stain on one of the shirts I was sending. I apologized profusely and paid her the dry-cleaning charges outside of EBay through PayPal. I was lucky that the buyer was so sweet and understanding...she gave me positive feedback later.

Crossing my fingers for you!

when did you first e-mail her?  i haven't been in this position per se, but i'd wait until she responds before providing a full refund.  i'd probably wait until the end of the weekend before i took any further action.

you're being very responsible and considerate (if only all ebayers were like you!), and i'm guessing your buyer will understand. hope it all works out.

since it is your error , I would wait at least 3 days for her to respond. If she doesnt respond then file "unable to complete transaction" refund her money and get your fees for selling the item refunded.

HTH!

You could also request her contact info and give her a phone call.

hmm.  I've never been in this situation but I guess this is what I would do.  I would wait another day and see if she responds.  If she doesn't I would send another email explaining the situation and then mail the curtains with a note in the box on what happened, how you emailed her x number of times, and what her options are.
