Do you have an outlet mall near you? I have several pair of Cole Haan nike air series & I got them at their outlet store for cheaper - still not cheap, mind you, but cheaper. Both pair are sandalish & won't work for me in November, otherwise I'd be bringing them.
I also bought some Pumas for my NY trip in November but I'm still undecided about them. So I'm watching this thread really close as well.

On the Cole Haan website they have the Air Beaus in leopard print on sale.
And I saw these in black patent leather at the Marshall's in Redwood City that's in the Mervyn's shopping center on Veterans Blvd. I found them to run small though. I tried on size 11 and while my foot fit in them, it was too tight. I would have bought them otherwise. They were $50, didn't see if they had other sizes.

I'm not sure where you're from or when in October you're going to NYC, but I don't know that the sandals will be very practical for walking around the city-- it can get chilly in October!
I know you said you don't like sneakers, but I just bought Converse All-Star premiere ones:
So comfy!!!
I'd worry about anything that could potentially give a blister, so I wonder if the pointy-toed shoes would be okay for a normal day in the city. You'll be amazed at how hard NYC can be on your feet because it is such a walking city-- more so for you probably because you'll be doing so much as a visitor!
