this is the sweater:

and some outfits i've come up with (vintage skirt, vintage dress which looks just like the delia's dress):

but i'm worried it makes me look kind of schleppy...i can't wear it zipped because where it hits at the bottom hugs my hips. i don't know if maybe a smaller size would look better or if i should look for something else.

thoughts?

I think it just needs some waist definition. either zip it up to the breast bone, or wear it open in the front a little and cinched with a belt vs. pulled together and cinched (I saw this somewhere - it was an interesting look I plan on copying)

one more thought - do you have any vintage sweater/chain clips? that can be a cool way to pull it together where you want as well.

it looks really unflattering of me with a belt. (too embarassing to post)

but zipped i guess doesn't look too bad. i'm just not usually a fan of things zipped...(or buttoned up...i feel like it emphasizes my hips. i'm usually "LOL i know i have hips!" but i feel this calls extra attention to this)

How about getting one of those two-way zippers installed so you could have it unzipped at the bottom, but have it zipped at the waist for more definition?

I like it zipped, and I don't think it emphasises your hips at all! I'm voting to keep it...

I prefer it zipped and add a cute winter scarf with the outfits.
