In search of winter coat

So, I have been putting off buying a coat that's actually warm for about 3 years now. Over and over I've seen a coat I love, and then I pass it up, regretting it later.
I am going to buy a coat this year. I have to.
There are a couple I've seen that I like, but I'd love some help looking. I find myself looking at the same stores over and over and not finding anything that is right for me.

I'm willing to spend a good amount of money if I love it. I'd like to keep it under $600, but under $400 would be ideal.

When are stores going to really start stocking winter coats?


Love the modern design of this, and I think I'd wear it forever.


Love how tailored this one is and the grey-black is fabulous.


Phenomenal and totally me. I love the military inspired look. The length is perfect, too. It's $1500, though, and that is not in my price range.

I love the coats you found!  They're so striking.

Not sure when stores will begin heavy-duty winter coat stocking, but if you want to look now, just to get some ideas, you might want to try Nordstrom Rack.  I went over the weekend and they had a huge selection.

Macy's has a Kenneth Cole wool coat that is similar to the last one you posted.  I saw it in the store on Monday for about $360.00.  I'll see if I can find pics online.

This also has the military inspired style. I would wear it without the hood.  It's only 139.00

I posted that very first one awhile back. I loooove it and I really hope that I am able to get it. So of course I am biased, but I definitely think it's the nicest winter coat I have seen so far, and I have looked at every website I could think of.

The first coat is really something. It's very unique. I'm just not sure about the color for me- I am really pale, think Snow White, and have dark brown curly hair and I'm afraid it would wash me out. :\

Thank you for the other suggestions, I appreciate them. More would awesome, too.

i am a coat addict but nothing has caught my eye so far this season(except the first one you posted)- i just assumed things aren't out yet?

kmd, what are your specs for your ideal coat? (style, color?)

jmango, I never saw your response to this. Thank you!

I like almost all of the coats you posted, but none of them are quite right, I guess. I love that third on from Le Train Blue- it's lovely.
I'm looking for unique, tailored, modern, and warm all in one. I'd love something in black, but would go for dark red or grey, if the right coat was found.

I found some others that I am liking tonight.


That is $895, though and I just can't swing that this year.


I really like this, but would prefer a black or dark red coat.

i'm not sure if you have an off 5th near you, but i went there the other day and they had a gorgeous tahari caot for about $300.
it is similar to this one w/the hidden buttons and the same shape, but the collar is different. they had it in a beautiful red and also in black and gray.
