what's up with travelocity ...
Permalink Closed

i just tried doing a "flexible dates" search on travelocity (i use this kind of search almost exclusively to find the cheapest flights since i can pretty much travel whenever i want) and it now says that "flexible dates" is only available for flights within the US and Canada.  WTF???

it's the same deal on expedia and orbitz.  and i noticed on the fare watcher thing i have on my yahoo homepage that not that long ago the flight i watch between here and costa rica became "not available" while all the domestic ones i watch are still fine.  anyone know what's going on?

They stopped offering that option earlier in the summer. It totally sucks.. That's how I found the majority of my plane tickets and I loved have the fare watcher alerts.

Here is a Fodors thread with the explanation Travelocity gave to someone (it didn't make sense to me) and other options. I tried a few of the things people suggested and so far I haven't found anything that really compares.

You can choose flexible dates on kayak.com for international flights, in fact I just used it yesterday.

Is this a feature other than the thing where you can search up to 3 days before and after? I've looked there a few times and that's all I've been able to find.

The feature that Travelocity discontinued let you pick a range of months (like Oct-Dec 2006) and then would show you the cheapest fare for that time period. It was so awesome.

This article says it's the fault of meddling by the DOT.

I checked out this article from cc and it just made me so mad! This totally sucks! I am sure that travelocity or some other company will figure out how to get around that legal stuff... or maybe that is my wishful thinking.
