My dad is taking me to a black tie event in October. My mom was supposed to go with him, but she has foot surgery at the end of the month and won't be able to be up and around that early. :(

So, my dad told me not to get anything to wear, but I'm considering getting this dress for it:



I've always assumed black tie meant a long dress, and the only dressy dresses I currently have are of the knee length-ish variety. Plus, I'm just excited about getting dressed up. I am probably using that excitement to justify getting a new dress, and also the fact that this is kind of a work event for him and I want to look nice/appropriate. In your experience/opinion, does black tie = long dress?

for black tie you should usually wear a long dress...that dress is great!

I agree, black tie means floor length dress.

I like the dress you chose! it looks very classic - I'm sure you could continue to wear it for years.
