Do you dress up for Halloween?

i absolutely dress up for halloween.

no parties, but i do hand out candy to kids in my neighborhood. (and like larry david, i don't like to give candy to older kids who are barely in costume)

i worked on halloween last year and i even dressed up then, which i posted about on a previous thread style.

no idea what i am dressing up as this year, though.

Oh, definitely! I love Halloween. Not sure what my office does for Halloween. Somehow I'm doubting that they do anything since it's a bunch of men who probably think that Halloween is silly. Last year, at my old job, everyone dressed up. And I always like to go out to a bar or to a party all dressed up in costume. It's so fun!

I try not to. Boring I know.

I always want to be really cool things but have no place to go. The things I want to dress up as would be too much for work, and I spend my evening walking the neighborhood behind the kids holding flashlights, bags, jackets, waterbottles, etc. So comfort is key and no one would even see it. Oh well!

Yup! Although I've noticed the Halloween parties have gotten less frequent since none of my close friends here are in school anymore...costumes require planning. My best ever was when I was a greek goddess...in a white velour robe. It was raining that night...and I inadvertently became a "white, wet tee-shirt goddess." Good times :)

Absolutely...I dress up every year...it's my only chance to let my theatre training out! What's funny is that I didn't get into it at all as a child/young adult.

In the area I live in though none of the adults do...So I probably look crazy when I'm out with my son in full costume and makeup.

I dress up if I have a party to go to, which happens usually at least once a year. This year I think I'm going to be a Native American - I know that's not original at all, but I've always wanted to!

The bf and I are huge Halloween-ers (Halloweiners?) We spend months in advance planning and creating costumes matching/corresponding costumes every year and go to bars or parties and win prizes. We are nerds, its true.

I wish I had pictures to post but we didn't have a didgcam at the time. Some of our best have been

-Robots. In handmade costumes out of garbage cans, ducting tubes and all sorts of mechanical looking goodies. The bf even wired up little LED lights that blinked on our "control panels".
-Chickens. I spent months sewing strips of feathers onto 2 white sweat suits (and cursed them every single day). Then we wore yellow kneesocks and rubbergloves on our feet for chicken feet.
-The best one though was our Pam and Tommy costumes. We won $500 in a bar. I had a huge blond wig and gave myself enormous tatas and we drew tatttoos all over C, who was shirtless.

This year it was a toss up but we are going retro as Axl (me) and Slash (the bf) in the heyday of GnR. I shall be rocking the white bike shorts and flannel shirt while we have to find a top hat for C to wear. I will definitly take pics this year.

for sure. i *adore* halloween. i've been a genie, a belly dancer, jasmine from aladdin, cleopatra, a fairy princess, and most recently dorothy from the wizard of oz.

in fact, i'm kind of sad that i won't get to dress up this halloween because i'll be in paris (yippeee!!) and apparently, they don't celebrate it there? does anyone know for sure if parisians celebrate halloween?

No. I've never really been into it, and DH's mom died on Halloween. So it's not exactly his favorite holiday. :( He does love it when trick-or-treaters come to the house for candy though. He thinks they are all so adorable!

I did my semester abroad in France in the fall, and while I wasn't in Paris, the family I lived with was not into celebrating Halloween at all and neither were most people in the town. My host family was super sensitive to being Americanized by pop culture and I'm sure that was part of why they resisted it, although it's not a strictly American holiday. That was ten years ago, though, and from what I gather it's been getting more popular. This article at about.com describes it:

At the very least, there should be American bars in Paris that will have something planned for that night (as the article mentions).

eta: oops, forgot to answer the initial question! The last time I dressed up for Halloween was four years ago, and I was a cowgirl and had a party. I love dressing up and wish more of my friends got into it. No kids go trick or treating in my apartment building, and I so wish they did!

Metric: I love your idea of a chicken costume.. I am probably dressing up this year and am thinking of trying to do that. Exactly how hard and time consuming is it? And is there anymore details you could give about how to go about executing this?

Yes, Halloween is FH's favorite holiday (I like it ok, but I'm not crazy about it like he is) so it's taken pretty seriously at our place. We're throwing a costumes-required party in October. This year, I'm either going to be Little Red Riding Hood and he will be a wolf, or I'm going to be a cute/sexy sailor girl and he's going to be a scary pirate.

LOL! Cute poll, but I DID dress up last year, Joe and I went to our usual Halloween costume party that one of his co-workers has each year. I was Leopard Lady, and he was Puss in Boots (from Shrek 2). I may try to scan the pics. so yall can see! LOL Not sure what we'll do this year, as the couple might not have the parties anymore, since they had their 1st child earlier this year.
