I went to pick up my key from the school I work at today. The principal and most teachers were at a voluntary inservice which I couldn't attend so the school was empty aside from custodial staff and the secretary.
OK- at the end of last year I was told I was teaching 5th grade instead of 3rd for this upcoming year. I wasn't happy and actually quite pissed that my boss told at the last minute so I didn't have time to apply for a postition at a different school in the grade level I wanted. Ok, fine. I'll deal.
Then...she tells me that I need to change rooms. Two rooms down the hall. So lame. Our school is tiny. There is no real reason for me to have to move. Ok, fine. I'll deal.
Well...today I went to get my key, tag some boxes and furniture for custodial to move and check the new room to make sure it was ready for me to move in. The teacher that was in that room before told me that it was ready for me. Well, I walk in and look around. It is a disaster. I open cabinets and drawers, there are books everywhere, crumpled up papers, books that must be a hundred years old, etc.
I left the principal a note telling her the room needed to be cleaned out. I hope it gets done. I'm stressing because school starts on Thursday (a week from today). We (the teachers) go back on Tuesday to prepare, etc.
I refuse to clean it out my self because for one the room I left is immaculate. Secondly I don't get paid for it. Why should I ruin the end of my summer and be away from my kids when I didn't make/leave the mess? It's not fair. What sucks even more is she is supposed to be my friend. I just had lunch with her this past weekend. Ugghhhh! I feel like I ratted her out and am being petty. Yet, I know how much work and time is put into making classrooms presentable. I took tons of time after school at the end of June to make sure the room I was leaving behind was going to be clean.
Sorry to hear about that. I hate cleaning up after other people. I hope your room gets cleaned for you. Either way, this will all be over in a week! Good luck!
don't clean it! And if it doesn't get done, I would remind your principal that you won't have time to set up and remind her that parents won't be pleased when they drop off their little dumplings.
BTW, I hate room setup, and I am sure you have way more to do at the elem. level than we do. I always feel like they make me do all this crap, take stuff down, etc at the end of the year, just so I can put it up in exactly the same place 2 months later.
How jealous am I that you are still on vacation?!?!
