Tips for having more energy

I feel tired a lot. Well, let me clarify, just at night by the time I get home from work and the gym. If i cook dinner and then sit down, it is all over and i am asleep.

any way to just get by on 6 hours of sleep? I feel like I could get a lot more accomplished--reading, cleaning, ebay, cooking, etc.

This might sound stupid, but do you take vitamins and eat right? I always start to feel sluggish after a few days of eating crappily. I feel my best when I eat enough fruits and vegetables, and remember to take my iron and my vitamins.

ETA: And if I have a cup of coffee or tea

I totally agree w/ ttara123 - vitamins - if I don't take my Nutrilite vitamins I get sick and sluggish.  The crappy vitamins like Centrum don't really do much, but good vitamins make all the difference!!

Oh and I take fruit & veggie pills, so I don't feel so bad if I don't eat my full serving each day!

tina can you expand on exactly what you take?
what are fruit & veggie pills?

mikacat, i'm in the same boat as you- i need at least 7-8 hrs of sleep a night to feel OK and i feel like other people can get away w/so much less.

Have a good breakfast.  I have an Instant Breakfast every morning, they are full of vitamins.  I don't like going without!

I've been taking B complex vitamins for the past month or so and they work wonders.  If I forget to take it in the morning, I feel super sluggish when I get home from work and just feel like sitting on the couch.  When I do take them, which is more often than not, I still have energy left over when I get home.  The difference has been pretty dramatic.

Thank you for posting this thread! I am EXHAUSTED.  I work full time and go to school full time, so I need all the energy I can get. I'm taking a B vitamin, but I think I need to take some other vitamins as well. I'm definatly not getting 8 hours sleep a night.

I don't know... it kind of seems like it's okay to be tired after you work a full day, go to the gym, and then cook dinner. It seems reasonable to me to be tired after that day.

But if I want to get other things done after gym time when I get home, I don't sit down. If I sit and rest, I'll crash. So if there are things to do, I just do them. If I'm going out afterwards I'll never even take a minute to chill after the shower or else I'll never make it out of the house. How can we be blamed? Our couches are so comfy...

Also, I've found that a little mid-afternoon caffeine (in my case a diet soda) helps boost my energy for the evening. I wouldn't recommend any later because then you might have a hard time sleeping but around 3 o'clock I almost always have something caffeinated to give me a pick-me-up.

good tips--a b vitamin would be a good idea. I can't ever remember to take them so I think i will leave them on my desk at work. More water is always a good idea. I eat pretty good but could always eat more veges and fruits and less refined sugar. I don't drink caffeine so i won't start that.
