Do you ladies ever go to sales/outlets to specifically buy items to sell on ebay? If so, what's your strategy when you shop? Do you buy items that you know people will likely want? Do you only go for designer things or just wing it?

I'll start:

After much agonizing, I sold my Botkier skeleton bag on ebay and the money I got was able to cover the price of the two bags I bought at the sample sale.

I figure I could make a little extra cash by buying extras of some things when shopping and then putting them on ebay.

I have not personally bought things, but I've always pondered about doing it. I think when fall sample sales start I just might. Also when I was @ the Botkier sample sale there were girls buying like 8 at a time! Clearly many on them were going to unload on ebay. As a matter of fact the morning I was taking the train into Manhattan (6am) I checked ebay- it was 2 pages of Botkiers.

By about 9:30 pm there were about 4 pages.By the next mroning it was about 6. So many people do this!

Oh the same w/ the mike and chris hoodies.

Some outlet things, not a good idea most of the time.  There are a lot of people who shop outlets for ebay merchandise.  Like I recently bought myself a pink jacket from Jcrew, looked on ebay and sure enough, there were tons of them since they were dirt cheap in the store.

Occasionally I will find things I just know will do well and buy it even though I wouldn't wear it.  Once I came across an ugly Baby Phat coat for $20 and sold it for over $90.

Last fall, I was watching Oprah's "Favorite Things" episode, and she had the Ugg Uptown boots on there.  I had a Shopbop 20% off code, so I went right on their website and ordered 8 pairs of the boots.  They sold out fairly quick on Shopbop, so I was hopeful they would be hard to get come Christmas time.  I sold them on eBay when it got closer to Christmas and averaged a $60 profit per pair!  When I ordered the boots, I put them on a zero-interest Visa, so I didn't pay any finance charges on the original purchase (it was over $1500).  Just had a wild hair that day, I haven't done that since, but I might again!

I was thinking about this recently, too--I'm just nervous that I'd wind up screwing myself over.
