counterfeit merchandise...do you call them out?
Permalink Closed

I've been in several boutiques lately that have counterfeit purses, sunglasses, etc.  I heard a blurb about counterfeiting on NPR this morning and wondered your thoughts.  I realize not everyone has a problem with it, but i do.

I personally HATE fake stuff (DVDs, watches, meds, purses, you name it)...I want to clarify that *knockoffs* are different.  I don't hate that Nine West makes a purse similar to a designer bag...I don't love it, but at least they are not trying to pass it off as a fake.  However, a cheap bag that is stamped Prada, LV, etc really gets my blood boiling.  I swear I just want to throw blood on them like the fur people in the 80s.

So, when I am in a store...I really have to hold my tongue in order to not say anything.  But what I really want to do is just ask for the manager and ask them if they are aware that counterfeitting is illegal, selling counterfeit goods are illegal, and just let them know that the fines are very harsh.

So, have any of you ever done this...or would you?

That one is the WORST!  They sell their fake handbags and sunglasses RIGHT NEXT to authentic juicy couture and their designer jeans.  I really want to say "With all of this fake merchandise in here, how can I trust that your juicy and 7s are real?"

There 7's are juicy probably ISNT real. :(

I do actually call the vendors to report fake merchandise. If it is actually authentic then the store will have an open active account with the vendor. BUT if it is fake, the vendor wont have an account with them and will usually notify the police.

HTH!

I have never done this in a store, but I have on ebay. I have reported people who were trying to sell obvious fakes, yet post them as authentic.

I haven't been in that store in a few years (since leaving OKC).  I do know the owner, however, and she is very aware of the fact that she sells fakes.  She says that she does not pass them off as "designer" therefore they are not illegal.  I always thought she was nutso (way too much Brighton in there for me anyway).  If you do it- you have to let me know what happens!!  Oh, the owner is just someone I know of, not someone that I am close friends with so don't worry about offending me. =)
