Eyelet Blazer stain - help!!!
Permalink Closed

I have a beautiful J Crew white eyelet blazer with a few yellow stains that won't come out!  I have only worn this blazer a few times and I took it to the drycleaner.  I didn't notice these yellow stains at the time so I'm not sure whether they were there when I took it in or whether it was a result of drycleaning.  I noticed them when I picked it up at the drycleaner and they said they'd try reclean and try and get them out (they claimed there was no way they could have maid the stains also).  I picked up the jacket yesterday and the stains are still there.  They are faint yellow, almost unnoticable.  At this point, I'm not sure how they got there I just want to get them out.  Does anyone have any ideas?  The jacket is dry clean only but its 100% cotton with acetate lining.  Do you think I should try handwashing with oxiclean or something to that effect?

Any advice would be appreciated...I just want to get the jacket clean again

I'm laundry-incompetant, but if it's a white blazer can you dab it with bleach? how big are they?

I had the same thing happen to me with an eyelet shirt, i had unexplained yellow stains that didn't come out with washing.  This is what I did:  I took a capful of bleach and diluted it with the same amount of cold water.  I dipped a cotton swab in the mixture and swiped over the stains.  I let it sit for a couple of minutes and the stains disappeared, I then rinsed in cold water to get the bleach out and washed as normal.  It worked like a charm.  I should also say that it was an older shirt and I figured if something went drastically wrong it wouldn't be a huge loss.  If it was a blazer from J Crew that I'd only worn a couple of times I would have probably been more cautious.

I think I'll try cleaning the stain with bleach as you all suggested.  I'm sort of desperate now - the dry cleaner couldn't get it out so there isn't much more I can do.  I'd rather give it a try than having a blazer I can't wear because of stains sitting in my closet....Thanks!

And if anyone else has insight, please let me know!

I am sorry to say that I have no idea how to get the stain out. But I will share that I had ordered a bathing suit from J.Crew and it got some white marks like bleach on it. I called the customer service line and asked them if they had been having any problems. They said that they hadn't but that they would replace the suit for me.

The best part was the girl told me that the suit was then on sale and she would refund me the difference and that there were a few more colors in my size if I wanted to order anymore. Now they had gone on sale to 9.99 a piece so I was able to get another one also! So my advice would be to try your luck on calling customer service and if they are able to replace it for you let me know because I love that blazer that you are talking about! Best of luck!

I may be incorrect but I think I read somewhere about dry cleaning chemicals reacting badly with white clothes - ie yellow tints/spots.  Maybe you can try spot cleaning in the future?
