this should be in travel but i want more traffic.

i'm flying to dallas on sept. 1 - a coworker just told me that on top of all the recent restrictions on carry-on stuff (no liquids, gels, deoderant...) that you now can't carry on anything - no books, no purse, nothing.  your id has to be in a clear plastic bag and that's all you're allowed.

please tell me she's crazy.  the main reason i'm taking this trip is to transport my bff's chihuahua from massachusetts to texas, and if they won't let me carry a book on, i'm wondering how they'll feel about a fat little dog.

I haven't heard anything about that - eventually that may be the way things end up going, but as far as I know they haven't gone to that extreme.

I'd pack any liquid/gel/cream type items in your checked luggage - it should still be fine there.

You can always call your airline or airport too to verify what their specific procedures are.

as far as I understood, that was for people coming fromUK. I don't think for USA flights there were so amny restrictions: the only thing, you cannot carry liquids

I am still not sure about electronic devices: you might have to check you cell phone.
A colleague of mine is coming back tomorrow. I can probably ask her on Thu: I am flying on the 4th, and I am interested too!

I flew from Charlotte back to Canada on the 14th of August and the only restrictions were no gels/creams/liquids (I got lip balm taken away from me because it was in a tin instead of a tube). They were still allowing electronics, and anything else, besides the restrictions stated above.

I would take a look at your airline's website and see if there is any information on there regarding recent changes in carry-on allowances. Also you can probably call the airport customer service and find out anything you need to know.

Here's a link to the TSA's website, which outlines what you can and can't take on a plane.  I think you should be fine with a book.

She's crazy...here's a link to the MassPort site regarding the current "liquids" restrictions:

I believe when it comes to pets you have to check directly with the specific airline....

Thank goodness people can still carry on their water bras and 'personal lubricants'

My DH flew in & out of Dallas twice last week & you were allowed a carryon as always. The only real restriction was on the liquids as everyone stated.

How long are you going to be here? Have anything fun planned?

Yeah I just flew from Chicago to Los Angeles last week and you could take your carry-ons as usual. The only restrictions were no liquids.

thanks all, i figured she was wrong but i wanted to make sure.

laken - i'm flying out with another girlfriend (and the dog...) just for a long weekend.  we get in friday night and leave tuesday morning.  my bff recently relocated back to dallas with her baby (the one i "helped" deliver, for those who remember) and i miss him like crazy.  i guess we're going to one of her friends' lake houses or something on one day, and to some new club another friend of hers opened one evening.  other than that, i just plan to play with my little man!  and i want to go to anthro, since i've never been inside one.

beyond the specific listing, just make sure you don't bring anything that could ever in a million years be conceived of as "liquid" regardless of your opinion on it's liquidity...they took my rosebud salve and i am telling you, i could hold that thing upside down for a year and the stuff would never come out.

If you are still unsure of what you can take on, you can call the airlines to ask them more specific questions.

I just got back from NYC Monday and here are the things I took on my carry on that were allowable: contact solution (under 2 oz. - travel size); allergy nasal spray (again under 2 oz. and with your name on the prescription - I went to the drugstore before I left to get an extra label since I threw mine away when I opened the box); lip balm (covergirl lipslicks stuff); and lipstick in a tube.

Here are the things they threw away (annoyingly): mascara and concealer.

Just check out the TSA add and you're good. Oh and everyone had computers, mp3 players, etc., the whole time. And I had three books with me, so no worries there.

Good luck and have fun!

bluebirde was your concealer liquid or solid (like a big lipstick tube). I just bought a stick foundation to take with me this weekend, but if they made your throw out a stick concealer I'll probably just leave it home. Looking at the TSA site it looked like lipstick was ok, but lip gloss isn't so I thought the solid kind would be ok...

I answered this in your beauty post but just in case, it wasn't a liquid concealer but it wasn't a solid either. It was in a tiny, tiny tube, smaller than my pinky finger and the consistancy was like a soft solid. I was terribly annoyed especially since I saw a girl bring a bottle of water on the plan earlier. Boo.

If you want to take it anyway, I'd just put it in a different bag than your regular makeup. I had a lipgloss in a coin purse (where I normally keep my glosses in my purse) that I forgot to take out and they didn't even look there so I got away with that one.

sorry to hijack, asf, when you say tube, are we talking like lipstick tube or like, a tube that paint comes in?

I flew monday and will fly again friday, sunday, wednesday and next saturday.

I made sure not to have any lip balms, lotions or hair products with me.  Basically all I carried on was my lap top, wallet and binders for work.

next saturday i fly into the UK and can travel as though I am flying domestically.  When coming back from the UK, all of my stuff will have to fit in the clear plastic bag.  no carry on at all.

keep your eyes peeled for new restrictions though.  since they pulled those 12 people off that flight today that were passing around cell phones to possibly detenate (sp?) a bomb, news sources are speculating that cell phones and/or all electronics may be banned as well.

tube paint comes in, except for a small version. Not a lipstick tube.
