Will substituting these foods affect my diet?
Permalink Closed

I'm doing the Fitness Magazine 8 week challenge and I need advice on what foods I can subtitute the foods I dont like.  So this is what I'm replacing and what I'm replacing it with:

Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding = Sugar Free Jello

Coffee w/3T ff half & half = Sugar Free Cocoa w/ 1c. non fat milk

1c Watermelon = 1c Seedless Grapes

Kidney Beans = Black or Red Beans

Low fat coleslaw = small garden salad w/low fat dressing

I still need help replacing the veggies, I know, this is horrible, I can't eat them by itself, if they're mixed in rice or something I can eat them, but I cant stand to eat them alone, it just grosses me out. I can't just try or suck it up, it literally makes me throw up.

  • Side of veggie salad with broccoli, carrots, & cauliflower.
  • Steamed artichoke
  • Tomato and Asparagus Salad

I would appreciate your feedback!

hmm do you like any kinds of pudding?  I think the vanilla pudding is in there to get a milk serving in.  Maybe try a fat free chocolate or devils food (very good). Or maybe flavored yogurt - its about the same calorie wise.

For veggies how about some low fat cheese or ff cheese on them melted with some seasoning on top.  That is how I usually eat them or some spray butter and seasoning.

beans are more or less equivalent, so you should be fine (lentils have less calories, chickpeas more, the others are more or less thesame)

I think you can pretty much exchange/substitute veggies (except than for potatoes)as long as you keep the dressing the same

cocoa has more calories than coffee, even without milk. how about tea?

can't help you with the pudding. I think aurora is right about it being a dairy serving. How about FF, SF yogurt?

I think I'll sub low fat yogurt for the pudding.

The reason I chose cocoa is because it's listed as a snack w/ fig cookies on another day, so I thought I could sub that for the coffee.

I think the grapes for the watermelon might not be an equal swap. From what I remember, grapesaren't the best fruit for you calorie-wise.

For your veggies, try a little Ken's Steakhouse light ceasar dressing or Wishbone salad spritzers on steamed veggies. It adds a lot of flavor with very few calories. The wishbone is 1 calorie per spritz and the light caesar, a little goes a long way. I put maybe a tad more than a teaspoon on a whole salad!
