money orders on Ebay
Permalink Closed

I'm posting this here as the Ebay section doesn't seem to get much traffic.

I have some items for sale right now, and a potential buyer from Canada asked me if I accept money orders. I've never had payment in that way, and think I read about another member here who had a bad outcome with someone who tried to pay her with one. The potential buyer has 100% positive feedback so it does make me feel a little more comfortable, but I don't really know how they work. Anyone have experience with this? TIA!

money orders are not as scarry as they seem.  you just wait to get the money order in the mail, and then ship the item once you get it.  the only problem really, is if you never recieve the money order.  then it is your word against theirs if they say they sent it.  but i think money orders can be tracked now.  they have those bar codes on them and the buyer should keep the stub with a tracking number on it.

If there wasn't a lot of interest in the item I was selling, for example, not too many people were watching it and no one had bid, I would probably go ahead and accept a money order. It's kind of a pain because you have to wait for it to come, etc. but it's worth it if you'll be getting more money.

On the other hand, if my item already had bids and there seemed to be a lot of interest, I probably wouldn't accept a money order.

I once bid on something without realizing the seller only accepted money orders. It was kind of process to send her one, but it did turn out OK in the end.

the item in question doesn't seem to have a lot of interest, so i went ahead and told her i'd accept the money order if she was the winning bidder.

thanks for the advice!
