Is anyone else bored?
Permalink Closed

I am so utterly bored with my wardrobe, that I no longer enjoy getting dressed.  It's still so hot here (today it will be 105 again) and I just don't know what to wear to work anymore.  I have stopped caring.  I wear the same crap every day and today, just to make my combo of royal blue 3/4 sleeve tee and pink pants seem less summery, I added my plum suede/croc ankle strap heels.  I don't care that everyone is still wearing sandals; we are more than half-through August dammit.  I seriously got some looks at my feet on the elevator, but I know they were just admiring my cute shoes. ;)

Enough ranting/bitching ...  does anyone have tips to get me through the rest of the summer?  I need help with transitional dressing.  Perhaps tees in darker colors or jewel tones?  I want to buy buy buy new stuff, but I don't want to keep buying summer items; we have at least a month of these "help, I'm trapped in a furnace" days. :(  Mid-September, temps will go down to the 90s, upper 80s.  Maybe.

Please help, or I will have to keep resorting to wearing a black tee and the same few pairs of anthro pants I've been wearing every week.  My office is conservative and everyone wears dark colors year round, so really, I've just been fitting in more with the universal choice of dress.  That is so not me, fitting in or even attempting to do so.  Please help me find my identity again.

TIA!

What about getting some light-weight wool blend skirts that could transition?

I am So. Done. with summer!  Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!  I feel 'ya babe.

Could you do some tailored bermudas with tights and heels?  Do you have a simple dress you could throw a short sleeved cardi over?

I've also just been wearing fall-ish outfits to the office because it's so over-air conditioned that I usually end up freezing when i wear summer outfits anyway.

Also, it's been kinda chilly in the mornings.

But yeah, I can't wait till October when I can go all out!

Thanks for the ideas.

Unfortunately, Elle, we can't even wear cropped or capri pants, no matter how cute they are, but I might try and find some cute dresses. :(  Can you find me some that might also work for fall?  You are excellent at always finding options for us.  Or, if you can find some that are relatively cheap (under $40), that would also be great.  I've tried F21 online (no time to go to B&M stores), but the smalls and mediums sell out so quickly.

Kitty - I like the idea of wool blend skirts, so might look for some of them.  BR usually has a good selection.

My biggest issue is that I take the commuter rail in from burbs, which means about a 5 block walk to the train and then about 7 to my office.  It's in the 90s by 8 a.m., so at 5:30, it's usually at least 100 and lately, 105-109, so I really feel like wearing my bathing suit and flip flops. I might get some weird looks on the rail though ...  I'm thinking maybe I should just stock up on cardis/blazers and keep wearing tanks and light-weight tees.  The other issue is that I love brights, and they make up the majority of my summer wardrobe. I'm just not feeling them anymore since we're already in to August.  I want to move away from here; I'm so sick of this damn heat.  But there is the issue that I have split custody of my daughter with my ex-husband.  Perhaps I can begin trying to convince him to sell his house and move to the East Coast?  That's not entirely selfish, is it? ;)

Again, thanks.  You guys are the best!

BR also has a ton of really cute silk blouses right now - I got one that's 3/4 sleeve. It's loose and cool. You could wear it tucked into skirts w/ a belt for summer and then use it as a layering piece in the fall under sweaters and such.

Yeah, I was afraid of that .

Isaac Mizrahi Strapless Dress - Allspice$40 - comes in black but I'm posting the red for detail.  You could walk to the train and work in this by itself, and bring a cardi or blazer to wear over it in the office.  Would look cute with tights when it gets cooler too.

$40$40

$40

click for details$40 This would be cute with tights in the cooler weather too, and totally wearable now because it's lightweight cotton.  In Navy, too.

When I'm bored and we're inbetween the seasons, I just change my color pallet. I too and bored of summer colors, so I've switched to fall colors. It's still hot here, but I'll wear colors like navy, teal, purple, wine, and grey in tanks and tees. I've pretty much stopped wearing sandles and instead wear flats or sneakers. I do wear the flip flops occasionally though.

i have been buying so much fashion jewelry lately it's unreal.  i have also switched to buying my casual clothes which usually translates to tweener weather staples.  right now i'm buying a ton of jersey and knit materials to pair with my ebay jewelry and shoe collection.   when it's more fall weather i buy sweaters which usually cost more and require a bit more research (i want to see ALL the fall stuff before i start buying the expensive stuff).

recently i started stealing paint samples cards from home depot, that way i can play with color combos for clothing and as a bonus, when i need to match something (this worked great when buying sheets for my duvet cover) i can just bring in the swatch to make sure it's the right color.

i fully admit i'm a dork.

*gasp!*  I love this idea!!!  OMG--I'm totally going to Home Depot tonight.  You could also punch holes in the cards and put them on a shower curtain ring thingy so you can keep them all in one place and take out one card when you need it.  Oh, the possibilities!!!

You, my friend, are a genius!

Isaac Mizrahi Strapless Dress - Allspicelove this, but i think sfc has it and said she has to have it shortened.  i'm 5'1, so in my case, i would need about 6 inches cut off to make it work.  is it worth it to cut that much off of a dress?  i'm thinking the style might be modified.

absolutely love this and it's sitting in my cart.

unfortunately, don't think this would work for me

click for detailsagree this would be cute with tights -- i like it in navy also.  which stores is this one from?  thanks.
