I'm new to the area and I'm always nervous about going to a new hairdresser.  Any suggestions?

There is a chain of salons called Dellaria, they were voted best salon by readers of the Boston Phoenix. Here's a link with all of their locations:  http://www.simon.com/mall/showlink.aspx?url=www.dellaria.com%2f&returl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.simon.com%2fmall%2ftenant_details.aspx%3fID%3d339%26TID%3d31386

Then of course there's Newbury Street if you're looking for something high-end.

I used to go the Dellaria Salon at 623 Commonwealth Ave. when I lived in Boston and I really liked them.

I've been going to James Joseph Salon at 30 Newbury for the last couple of years and am really happy with them. I've lived in Boston since college and have tried a few different places but after a while I always found myself feeling that they didn't quite give me what I was looking for. I get a cut and highlights every 3-4 months @ JJ and never leave unhappy! They also have a new studio space at 168 Newbury where I believe all new clients get a deal on a cut. I think that I actually found out about them in either the Improper Bostonian and/or citysearch.

I have a friend who goes to Maksou where they do dry cutting and she really likes it, I've heard good things about the Aveda salon in Harvard Sq (Pyara) and Dellaria has gotten good reviews too. I had a terrible cut at Judy Jetson in Porter but I know a lot of people like it....

Good luck, finding a new salon is so nerve-wracking!
