URRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall

I am sitting at the light, 2 blks away from home after doing laundry.. minding my own business, then suddenly this girl who is turning the corner just ploughs right through my car. My freaking car is TOTALLY messed up. On the driver side from front all the way to the back!!!!!!!! I can open the door just enough to squeeze out. AAAARGGGH..!

She's under 21, driving someone else's car and said she'd pay for the damages herself!!! WTF!! But.. I'm not going to worry abt that right now... insurance company said they will send an adjuster out 2morrow and he will tell me my options.. I WILL BE PISSED IF I END UP PAYING FOR THIS MYSELF!!!!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope you are okay. There's no way you will have to pay for this yourself. It was clearly her fault. I wouldn't trust her to pay you herself unless she is ready to give you the money right now. After a certain time limit (maybe 2 weeks), if you haven't filed with your insurance, you lose the right to. So, if your car took 2 weeks to fix and you didn't receive the money from her, you risk never receiving it and not being able to do a heck of a lot about it. I would just work through insurance. From my experience with accidents, it doesn't go up all that much (at least when it isn't your fault; I've never been in an accident that was my fault).

Ouch, that f-ing sucks.  At least you're not hurt, though... the only thing worse than having your car all jacked up because of someone's idiocy is having yourSELF all jacked up because of someone's idiocy.

Hope the insurance company deals with this with minimal hassle.

Oh wow, I'm sorry!

What the hell was her excuse for plowing into you??? And I can tell you right now that it won't be cheap if it's all the way down the side. Last summer when I ran into a guardrail on the interstate (long story), I dented/scratched the entire driver's side of the car, from bumper to bumper, and the estimate was $3900.

I seriously don't understand why uninsured people are even allowed to drive......I hope this works out in your favor!

Wait-is she uninsured??? That sucks! For some reason, I was just assuming she wanted to pay out of pocket so her insurance didn't go up or so she didn't get kicked off her insurance (common in NJ). I think even if your insurance has to pay for it, your insurance costs won't be raised all that much. It sucks and you totally don't deserve it.

wait was she insured or not?  I'm confused.

I'm sorry this happened.  Where were you?  Sometimes I feel like I'm going to get plowed into around here also.  I have to go car shopping real soon if you need to also. Honda dealers.

I'm pretty sure she said she's uninsured... it was def not her car and she said it wouldn't be fair for it to come out of her friends insurance.. either way.. as long as i don't have to pay for my deductible! I hope she is sincere abt paying for it.

I've had pretty bad luck w/ accidents like this. Last yr, another underaged driver w/ NO insurance hit me from behind (I was also waiting at a light!)--- I got all her info but they never found her. Oh ya and wait-- the big daddy of all--- when I first moved to Houston--- some kids had stolen a BMW from the dealership, ran a stop sign and totalled my car!!! They ran off and were never found again. I think I ended up having to pay the $500 deductible but they cut me a check so I could buy another car.

Carrie-- I think she was taking a wide turn pretty fast and couldn't control the car. $3900??!! Yikes!!! Well, the Mustang is pretty old and has alot of miles on her so we'll see what the adjuster says.. Aurora-- I just might have to tag along!!!! Do you know what Honda you want yet?

ok, #1 I'm so sorry. But you're ok, so that's good.

#2. no. just no! it may not be "fair" to make her friends insurance pay for it, but that's why you don't let other people drive your car. Did you call the cops and have it documented? I hope so... Did the other car have damage? Any witnesses? I also know from experience that it will not be anythng close to cheap, so you're fighting this one. I say so. What state are you in? I know different states have different laws in terms of uninsured drivers and at-fault crap. PM me if you want- I have nothing to do at work tomorrw and will research for you.

ok, according to my DH- the other girls insurance has to pay for it. If you don't have her insurance info, your insurer should be able to get it if you have the license plate number. HER insurence should be the one sending an adjuster. And if nothing else, she is liable and you can sue.

If the owner of the car had insurance, then that's who will pay for this. No matter whether this girl thinks it's "fair" or not. That's the chance we all take if we let someone else (not on the policy) drive our vehicles. Accidents like this do happen, obviously.

Even if for some reason the other person(s) didn't have insurance, that's what your own under/uninsured motorist coverage is for. (Assuming you have that).

Someone backed into my car last August and left a huge dent in the side. My ins. co. treated it as a hit and run (my car was parked and I was not near it at the time, came back to find the dent), and I had the option of working it as a regular accident ($500 ded) or uninsured coverage ($250 ded) and I opted for the cheaper deductible. So we paid $250 - which still sucks, but what else could we do? - and they paid the other $1400.

Unless something's really, really off, you should be covered either way. I'm glad you are allright!!

I'm guessing there isn't a police report?  I was in a pretty mild accident but still caused ~$1k of damage to the car and the guy couldn't be found after the day of the wreck and I didn't call the police.  I learned my lesson and I don't care if its a 90 year old grannie I am calling the police each and every time I have someone hit me.

Definetly make her or her friend's insurance pay for your car.

Anyways sorry this happened and I am looking for a 2006 CR-V.  Any experiences with any dealerships around here?

thanks for the heads up kahlua.  I am riding on borrowed time right now with my car.  I'm thinking labor day will be the winning weekend for me.  I have a huge water leek and a darn oil leek (its pretty small though).  I just don't want to get stranded again like with the alternator in june.

Insurance follows the vehicle.  Find out the owner of the vehicle, the police should know, and contact them to report it to their insurance company.  They are liable for the damages.  Good Luck!
