Hubby and I want to go away from the 22 to the 25th of this month. We wantto drive so it needs to be within an 8 hours drive from Atlantic City (we are staying at the Borgata from the 21st to 22nd).
I first looked up Myrtle Beach, but it was too far.
Then I looked upNags Head, NC, but not sure if there is anything to do there besides going to the beach (also don't know about the restaurants).
Then I looked up Virginia Beach, but the hotels look so dumpy. None of them had over a 2 1/2 star rating.
So, now I am thinking of maybe someplace in the Delaware Water gap where we can possibly go kayaking or canoeing, in addition to swimming. Also, what about new england?
ILoveChoo wrote: New England is going to be a long ride from AC and there honestly isn't a whole heck of a lot to do other than beach/ walking around little towns. What about Rehobath in DE? I know a lot of people from DC go there and love it, but I've never been. I think it would be farly close to AC...
I've been to Rehoboth several times. It's a cute little town and it's close to Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach. All of these towns have shopping and restaurants. Rehoboth has a decent sized boardwalk with an amusement park. The only thing about Rehoboth is the parking can be horrendous. If you go a little farther south, you'll also find Fenwick Island and Ocean City, MD, which has tons of restaurants, shopping and a huge boardwalk. Also close by is Cape Henlopen State Park where there is camping and hiking.
Another place to check out would be Cape May, NJ (really close to AC). It's a quaint resort town with lots of Victorian architecture. There's also shopping and restaurants.Right over the bridge is Wildwood, if you're looking for a boardwalk and amusement park.
I would recommend either Delaware beaches or Cape May (I prefer DE, to NJ, but that's just me). Other places in Jersey-- Long Beach Island, Margate, Ocean City and Sea Isle City.
Oddly enough, I know a lot about the places you were interested in.
I live in a mountain lake community in the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area. It's beautiful here. There is lots to do if you are a nature type person. Lots of hiking, biking and canoing. Tannersville Outlets are near by. Here are some good places to stay:
The river water up here is pristine! If you haven't been its a cute trip.
Chamber of Commerce : www.pikechamber.com (Shameless plug, but my company did this site, let me know what you think)
Delaware is great too. Bethany, DE is very similar to Nags Head, NC (which is beyond beautiful and breathtaking) with less of a drive. Bethany has the Rehoboth Outlets nearby, nightlife in Dewey, DE or OC, MD.
Cape May, NJ is a gorgeous victorian village with cute B&Bs
We've decided to go to the Delaware Water Gap. We are staying at the Shawnee Inn. (ha, beat you to it Seashells...lol!)
It looks beautiful and there is a lot of stuff to do. I am going to see my doctor on Saturday, so I will ask her if there is anything I should not be doing. But otherwise, I hope to do some kayaking. I cannot wait!
You will have a lot of fun. If you get a chance- go shopping in Milford, its about 20 minutes north on 209. There are a lot of cute little shops and antiquesto check out. If you do go there, I recommend eating at the Dimmick Inn (its casual and really good).
And DON'T get stuck going to the Marshall's Creek Flea Market- TOURIST TRAP!
Have fun!! When you get back tell me what you did!
Oh, I will share everything and will try to take lots of pics. I am excited that this will be the first vacation where we are not going to an amusement or theme park. Yay!
