How long does it take for one to go away?  I've been on Cipro for 5 days now and I'm better but not totally.  I still have some pain in my kidneys and still some burning.  I'm just concerned b/c I don't have any more cipro and was wondering if I should call my dr.

I'm not an expert on this but I would definitely call my doctor. I would think you'd be better after a couple days on the Cipro, and definitely by the end of the prescription.

Def get it checked out asap if you're still having kidney pain and burning.  If you start developing a fever I'd check into the ER right away.  Hope you feel better soon...

Definitely go see the Dr. I had a UTI (supposedly) a few months ago and it landed me in the hospital for a week because my kidneys were failing... I'm not trying to scare you, of course, but please get it checked out asap.

I agree with everyone else -- see your doctor-- the cipro for 5 days clears it up for most people but when I get one I need for at least 7-10 days and a higher dose than what is normally prescribed for mine to go away

Thanks for your advice.

I spoke with my doctor last night and since they had only called in my meds she advised I go to an urgent care clinic for a test.  The doctor at the clinic confirmed that I still have the UTI but I also have a yeast infection on top of that.  Lucky me!!  He also advised that my kidneys are not infected due to the location of my pain which is lower back and not mid-back. He said a UTI can last anywhere from 3 days to 14 days.  I guess I fell into that 14 day catagory.  It's my own fault b/c I ignored the symptons at first thinking they would go away.  How dumb is that?!?!  I have never had a UTI before.  So he prescribed for me 7 more days of Cipro, 5 days of Pyridim, that 1 dose yeast infection pill (don't remember the name at the moment) and told me to do the 7 day Monistat due to the prolonged use of the Cipro.  Hopefully after all this I will be better.

Gosh Prissy, that totally sucks. I had a UTI & a yeast infection together once & it was AWFUL. Strong antibotics like that always always give me a yeast infection. {{hugs}} to you - take care of yourself.
