Help! Need Advice - Passport Issue

Ha! Don't you love their "suggestions"? I don't recommend getting them to expedite it. That's what I did, and it didn't show up on time. They have terrible customer service skills over there, too.

If you can spare a little extra cash, I'd call one of those companies that expedites the passport for you. Many of them have guarantees that you'd get it in time. I would have done that, but unfortunately, I'd already submitted my stuff.

I'd like to say you'd be fine with a marriage license/documentation, but security is very, very tight right now and likely to stay that way at least through 9/11. I wouldn't be as worried about getting to Europe as I would getting back. The security was much more strict then.

I had this issue when I went to europe last year. I just brought my marriage certificate to show who I was before and now. I didnt have a problem.

HB, I always enjoy interactions with the gov't. It's great to know my tax dollars are going toward worthy enterprises. ~snicker~

Delta said that if Continental lets me through on the way out, they'll "have to" let me through on the way back. Not so sure about that. Also not sure why they can't cancel & re-book me under my maiden name. DH thinks he can convince them of this (they didn't have a good explanation for why they couldn't) and will call tomorrow.

I guess I'll look up expediting companies.

Alliegurl, I'd like to think I'll be okay, but given the new restrictions today, I worry a bit about not having the correct documentation. What airline did you fly?

my husband uses an expeditor often for visas - this is probably your best route. did you use a travel agent, and if so, do they have a reputable expeditor they can refer you to? I did a quick search with keywords "atlanta passport visa expeditor" and found this - looks like they are on the up and up - at least they're local to you: http://www.visalady.com/

My passport is still in my maiden name, but so is my driver's license. So when I fly to Europe, I'm just going to use them w/ my maiden name. I did this last year when I went to Germany. I'm waiting to change it till I get back because when my friend sent hers off to have her name changed, she didn't get it for months!! Another friend of mine got married and went to the passport office and told them she lost her passport. She got a new one much faster. I don't know what the ramifications are of saying you lost your passport when you didn't, but it seems like getting an entirely new passport is much faster.

D, bless you! That is most helpful. They aren't even that far from where I live.

DH is checking with work to see who they used earlier this year to expedite his Visa for traveling to Asia. He said he'll call me with the info. I will tt that co. and this one you found and see what they say.

Bastet, the problem with getting a new one means that I'll probably still have to go to Miami for it, I think. And it's just not feasible for me to drive or fly to Miami in the next nine days. :(

I think you should try to get it expedited- I think it's worth a shot and might save you a lot of heartache if you get to the airport and are given a hard time- especially in light of yesterday's events...
