I want to get a pair of the ubiquitous platform shoes--but NOT anything from Jessica Simpson, because I can't stand her. So I was all set to get the Michael Kors Raceway ($130) in chocolate, which looks like this on their site: a nice, complex, pewtery brown--which is one of my favorite colors ever, it is the color of my botkier and every time i look at it I want to lick it. But they were featured in the "my foolproof outfit" lucky page this month, and while they still look good, they look just plain dark brown. The Nordstrom pic on the right shows that color.

so then I started looking at more, and I just got confused. There are these Kors, also  $130:MICHAEL Michael Kors 'Harness' Open Toe Pump

and the bronze version of the raceway:

and in snakeskin:

and for good measure, some gray suede Stevens for $140:

the problem is, they're all really neutral and there's no particular color that would be more useful in my wardrobe than any other. Help!

I got the Michael Michael Kors in brown at Nordstrom during the Anniversary Sale.  I love them.  IRL they are a beautiful, rich color.  They are also pretty padded in the insole so they are pretty comfy.

wow... I just went to try them on at my lunch break and good god are they uncomfortable. I think I will have to pass on them and all their brethren.

it was actually these, but I figure the styles are virtually identical so they're all bound to fit the same. Even accounting for the height of the platform, they are still really tall, and the platform actually made me feel a little uneasy walking around cause the sole doesn't give or flex at all. I felt like I could slip easily, although I guess if I wanted I could get one of those friction pads for the sole. But that was just my personal take--if you like them, you should try for yourself to see how they feel. They're definitely striking.

I know you don't want to go the Jessica Simpson route, but I swear these are the most comfortable heels I have. I haven't tried any of her other styles though.

I ditto this.  Besides, JS has nothing to do with the shoes other than putting her name on it... it's almost like a sports licensing agreement for team merchandise.  there's a new style with out cork too:

I was looking at these:  They're by "Oh Deer", for $113.  The only thing that makes them a "maybe" for me is the red sole.  I don't know if I'd like wearing something that was kind of a Louboutin knock off. But I'm still torn because they're really cute.  They come in tan and gold, too.

Bastet, I saw those too, and thought the same thing about the red heel. Copying the style is one thing, everybody does that, but to copy the signature red heel? Boo!

Z4 and D, I might have to try the JS... the price is better and the heel looks a bit lower.
