I just got two pairs of pants from Bluefly that I like but they are both a little too small for me, and they don't have them in the next size up. Since I'm in the midst of trying to lose some weight, I wonder if I should keep them anyway. Do any of you ever do this?
I used to do this but now I buy whatever fits at the moment. The way I see it is that by the time you lose enough weight to fit the pants, you'll want something else that's pretty and new. You'll have forgotten all about the pants.
I don't buy stuff (especially pants) that are too small because I never seem to lose "enough" weight to actually get into them and then you have to decide what to do with them. I agree with Lilykind that by the time you can fit into them you will find other things that you like and forget about them.
yea, sometimes, only if they're slightly too small and i know i'm serious about losing the weight. I have fluctuated about 20 lbs in the past few years (over time) back and forth, and i'm at the higher end and want to get more in shape. So if a pair of pants is slightly tight on me, it might be good motivation. But I'd still have to be able to get them on!
I try not to, but recently I bought a pair of slightly too small pants at BR for $15. They are basically damn near my dream black pants and although they didn't have the next size up, I did try on similar styles and they were all too big. So, since they were so cheap, I bought them just in case and went to two different BRs, looking for more sizes. I didn't see them anywhere. In fact, I had never seen them before, either in store or on the internet. I asked the SA at one of the other stores I went to, and she said she'd never seen them before either. I think I'll be able to wear them with the help of Spanx.
i try not too. if it's something that i really, really want (in the i've lusted after this for many months) and a smidge too small then i'll get it. but other than that no. it takes so long for me to lose weight, that it's not worth it.
that being said there are two items in my closet that are a bit too small, that i hope to fit in soon. but those were accidental purchases (a pair of shorts that i couldn't find in the next size up after going to four stores, and a pair of jeans purchased at a sample sale with no dressing rooms.)
When I was losing weight I bought a pair of very expensive pants. I'd try them on each week. I was originally a size 12 and bought them in a size 8. I was able to lose the weight pretty quickly by changing my diet and exercising, within two months they were too big. I wore them maybe once or twice. Then I bought a pair in a size 4 and got into them in another month. I did get some use out of them, they still fit up until a week or two ago!
My sister bought a black summer dress once that didnt fit her. She left it on her chair so she could see it everyday. Eventually she was able to fit into it.
I guess if its something you love and really want to wear you'll make the sacrifice!!

Same here. I think that if I did actually lose the weight, I probably wouldn't like the style anymore.
With skirts I can usually buy a size smaller and wear it higher at my natural waist, then if I ever lose 5-10 pounds it will still fit, just sit lower on my body.

I do this too, I think skirts are the most forgiving thing ever, except for maybe some Rachel Pally dresses which I can always wear no matter how much weight I gain or lose. In the past three years I've fluctuated in a 35 lb range but pretty much wear the same three sizes because I buy things that have a lot of give or can be worn multiple ways or in multiple places.
For me personally, having a piece of clothing that's way too small or even just too tight only makes me feel fat - it doesn't really motivate me to want to lose weight - but maybe that's just me.
I don't know if I ever posted this - but I used to weigh like 70 lbs more than I do now and when i was losing the weight I pretty much just stopped buying clothes because I knew my body was going to be changing. When I finaly reached goal weight, I went on a shopping spree. the thought of a shopping spree is more motivating for me than fitting into any given garment.
