how do you steam your veggies?

wondering how to steam veggies w/o a steamer? does anyone use a colander to do this? if so, can you please teach me?!

i steam mine in my rice cooker which is fab. do you have one?

I do it in the microwave or use a colander and then put some water in the bottom of another pan put the veggies in the colander and a lid on top of the veggies and let them steam.

Wow, I never thought of this!  I don't like veggies but my BF does and I have been trying to think of new ways to cook veggies for him.  Thanks!

I usually just put an inch or so of water in the bottom of the pan and then add the veggies ...

I have a small metal mesh basket (that I think is for cooking something else, but I don't really have the funds to buy kitchen items now) I put it in a pot with a little water on the bottom and put the lid on and let the water boil.


It takes about 15-20 minutes for broccoli and other harder veggies.

ditto. We do our artichokes this way. I did edamame tonight & they came out awesome.
