I really dont know how I feel about this movie. I suppose I am on the fence.

On one hand, it looks incredibly moving and brings me right back to that day. There were so many heroric (sp?) men and women who helped try and save lives (and lost theres in the process) and so many innocent victems who lost there lives and deserved to be rememberd.

BUT on the other hand, I feel that hollywood makes alot of movies that promote hidden agendas. I dont know if a movie like this will only cause people to feel refueled to stay involved in so many conflicts in the middle east and it seems slightly suspicious that it would come out so close to the approaching 2008 election year.

Just my 2 cents ...

Newsweek's current issue has a really great article about the movie. I would highly recommend reading it -- at least judging by the article, Oliver Stone isn't trying to promote any political message at all and isn't sensationalizing the story or making it melodramatic.

Like I said earlier, while I know this will be a painful thing to watch, I think expressions of art are part of the process of coming to terms with what happened on 9/11, as with any tragedy. It's also happening with Hurricane Katrina -- I think it was Elvis Costello who came out with an album filled with songs about it? And I agree with what CC said -- for some people, their feelings about 9/11 will never fade. If someone lost a loved one on that day, I don't think a movie is going to make their pain worse. I completely understand why someone would choose not to watch the movie, although I plan to see it. Everyone has the choice to go or not to go.

I happened to catch a special on MTV about this movie. They screened the movie for about 30
20-somethings, and then afterwards discussed it with Nicholas Cage, the other guy that played the other cop, Oliver Stone, and one of the real cops it was based on. Oliver Stone made a lot of good points about how he didn't think it was too soon because if we have survivors here to help make the movie more real, then why not do it. But then they showed a clip of the 2 cops when they were trapped talking/joking around and trying to stay positive, they were talking about the Dukes of Hazzard. Then they let an audience member ask a question and he asked something like "did you really talk about that/have that conversation" And they were all like "No, but we wanted to show how we were trying to make eachother laugh down there to lift our spirits. It just really turned me off. If you want to make a movie that is so real and true to the events, don't make stuff up for comedy/entertainment sake!!! I am still just really on the fence about this.
