to de-stress/spend time together?

Cook together, watch a movie, go out to eat, get a drink (just the two of us), take a weekend trip to spend time with family (yes, this actually does de-stress us), hang out by the pool in our apartment building (sometimes too many kids around for that)...our favorite is probably to just lie around the house all day and do nothing (this is usually a winter thing when it is too cold to go outside anyway).

If we could, we would go to Cozumel several times a year, unfortunately, we haven't gone in several years.

We watch movies, lay around the house doing nothing- not even answering the phone, we take a weekend to trip somewhere, we go out to the lake. Whatever sounds like a good idea.

We hop in the car, fill up the gas tank, and try to get lost. This is my absolute favorite thing to do in the whole world. It's wonderful because it's just us. We sing along to the radio, play the license plate game, make fun of the funny cities' names, and --most importantly-- talk. It's such a bonding experience, and whatever seems to be stressing or bugging us just disappears.

Sounds like a cute idea...unless of course you have a car full of screaming kids
I think we may try this next "date" night though

My favorite thing is to just spend all morning in bed. We might get up to make breakfast, etc., but we even just bring that back to bed. We just hang out and talk and snooze for hours

Our # 1 favorite thing to do is go get our favorite ice cream and rent a movie or watch one of our favorite shows in bed. Sometimes we even cook a comfort food dinner (spaghetti with garlic bread) and eat it in bed But, when we do that we tend to zone in to the TV and not really talk, so if we want to concentrate on eachother and have some real quality time, we eat out on the patio. It's very private and we have a really pretty view of our courtyard. He grills and we sit and chat, it's a good way to make sure we are all about eachother.

We shop! We both like to get out and do random things so we pick a day to go to outlet malls, hit the boutiques (boys clothes too), or just plain old run errands. Yesterday he was helping me pick out a purse and was carrying it around the store going on and on about how comfy it was on his shoulder (cute!). He was pretty adament about not wanting one of his own, though.

We also go on overnight trips to nearby towns just to do something new and hang out with each other. We went a few weekends ago to San Antonio and ended up going to Central Market, buying some food, and spending the whole evening in our hotel room hanging out, talking, and watching the Discovery Channel. It was totally nerdy but it gave us great time to reconnect.

Last weekend we went on a daytrip to some nearby wineries, Friday night we stayed in (I cooked!) and watched Smallville on DVD - I'm recently obsessed. We also go see double features some nights/days. I can only handle that every once in awhile, but he loves it. There's also one little bar I like to go to (we went there on our 2nd date or something like that) and have a glass of wine. We don't even spend a lot of time there, just maybe one drink after dinner or something but we always have good conversations there.

Get a bunch of junk food and snacks and play board games.
Go on photo adventures in the City or around town.
Go to the City and just hang out/walk around/have dinner.
Go to the movies and dinner.
Take weekend trips to nearby cities just to get to stay in nice hotels and do something new.

We like cooking together, renting movies, watching marathons of TV shows (especially Without a Trace -- he's gotten obsessed with that show), going out and just walking around NYC, visiting a museum or going to listen to music somewhere or to the movies. Recently we took a couple trips to Montauk on Long Island and spent a lot of time walking on the beach or just sitting and listening to the waves. Sometimes we ride the Staten Island ferry just for fun -- and it's free! Today we went to see An Inconvenient Truth (he starts work at 4 PM and I'm currently in school full time) and then took lunch to a park and sat and watched guys playing basketball. Also, we love hanging out with his nephew, who will be three in October. There's something about spending time with a kid who just wants to play and have fun that is so refreshing.

One of our favorite things to do is clear off the coffee table and lay out an antipasto dinner--little plates of salami, olives, artichoke hearts, toasted Italian bread, bruscetta topping, mozzerella, any number of things, really.  We'll open up a nice bottle of wine and sit on the floor and watch a foreign film or an older film.  We always have fun when we do that.

We also like to play Scrabble, go for a drive, cook together, go wine tasting, or go to a bar and grab a beer in the middle of the day.

I think the key is  to do something together where the focus is on you two and do something you both enjoy (as opposed to doing something you have to do, like grocery shopping or something).

we do several different things:

  1. We both really like to shop together.  So we'll spend an entire day just shopping.  Sometimes we have no money so we go to Saks and Nordstroms and try on ridiculously expensive items that we can't afford.  Sometimes its sad to walk away...

  2. on that note, we also go and test drive cars.  BF and I cars!

  3. we go to the movies.  we probably go at least once or twice a week.

  4. once a month, we pick a really swanky place for dinner.  we switch off choosing where to go and who pays.  So, for example, if I pick this month- he pays. and vice versa.  Its fun because we talk it up for weeks in advance, get dressed up and spare no expense on the meal.

  5. we love to go for walks together.  i've found that this is when BF opens up the most about his thoughts and what he wants out the future.  walking opens up his mouth for some reason!  and sometimes we end up at the little ice cream store in town and then walk home with our treat!

  6. we also really enjoy going to museums.  we both can browse for hours looking at different pieces.  its fun b/c we both have different tastes and we can talk to each other about how different pieces move us.

  7. and my absolute favorite thing to do is when we spend absolutely ALL day in bed together.  we watch movies, eat, snuggle, make-out(!), bring the lap top in and search for trips/clothes/cars/etc together, nap and "ahem" i think you know what else bed brings

  • take my dog to the dog park

  • eat!!

I'm so jealous! My hubby couldn't stay in bed all day unless he was in a body cast.  Ditto for watching TV.  He's the type that invents things to do, even if they don't (in my opinion) need to be done.

What we do:

We really try to have dinner together - at the dinner table most weeknights.  He normally leaves before I wake up and we aren't really phone talkers.  So this is where we chit-chat and stare all googly eyed at our Mr. (baby)

Every Wednesday we go to his parents - and my mom comes!  I know that's not normal "fun" for most people.  But- they watch/play/entertain Mr. and dinner is made for us.

We are having a home built so lately we've been pouring ourselves a glass of wine and walking the construction site.  Heehee sounds funny- but we're not building residential so we don't look like crazy people drinking wine in a half built neighborhood.

Most important:  After the baby is in bed we sit on the couch for some snuggling. TMI I know, but it's really important to me

Well...with three kids there is not a lot of "alone" time but we always have fun as a family and on those rare moments when we are alone.

As a family:

-We have passes to a local amusement park, a local waterpark and the ymca.  We take the kids and since we have passes we can just stay for a few hours or so then go home when the kids get tired.

-We go to my older son's (he's 11) baseball, basketball and football games.

-We hang out a home and watch shows that all of us can enjoy (this weekend it was "The Brady Bunch" marathon.  Even my two year-old was getting in to it!  Otherwise, we watch Full House or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

-We hang out at my mom and dad's house (they have a pool).

Alone (my parents watch the kids-thank god for my parents!):

-We go on weekend trips a lot!  For us, it's to Chicago, Nashville, etc.  We just went to Louisville a few weeks ago and stayed at this fab, new boutique hotel (http://www.21cmuseumhotel.com/OverviewSite/).

-Sometimes we take a weekday off work and go to a nearby casino (its a nice one) and my husband plays poker and I will sit in the room and watch tv, take a bath, surf the net (sounds strange but it is heaven to just be by yourself sometimes!).

-Sometimes we go out and walk through model homes or go to "home shows".

-Once a year we take a week-long trip to Naples, Florida and stay at a friend's empty home for free.

-We also like to go to college football and basketball games.

it's funny because after reading this, i thought of our "deep" conversations and they always occur on our walks and on top of the roof deck.  there's just something about being outside.  during dinner we always talk business.

interesting.

Sit around with a nice bottle of wine...or more likely, champagne.  We also like to walk up to San Vicente (a street near our house) and get an ice cream or some starbucks.  Walking and talking just go well together for us!  Or, on a nice day, take the convertible and drive up the coast to Malibu.  That's classic happy us!

Joe and I usually break out a movie, or just go riding around, WASTE gas! LOL We're going on a trip for my b-day, just down to good ol' Shreveport for a few days, and that's always a good get-away/destresser for us as well.

we watch UFC and then beat the crap out of each other in the middle of the living room.  i guess not really beat each other up, but we grapel and try some of the submissions from the fights.  it is fun, goofy, but fun.

we tune the tv to those generic music chanels you get with cable, the ones that don't have videos, they just play music.  and we flip the chanels and see who can guess the song or artist first.

we play mario cart on the super nintendo.  yes we are both video game geeks.

every sunday, just about, we spend half the day watching cheesey sci-fi chanel movies.
