I may be relocating to Reno Nevada with my company within the next year and was wondering if I'll be the only ST'er out there?
When I think of Reno, Comedy Central's Reno 911 comes to mind, but I hear from the people from the company that have relocated there is that its nothing like that. Anyone care to give me the real deal on Reno? Once we get closer to the actual project moving out there, I'll visit but right now I'm just touching ground on the whole deal.
One of the things I'm actually looking fowards to is experiencing all four seasons, especially fall and winter. It seems like in So. Cali, winter never comes, and fall only lasts 4 weeks
I'm not familiar with Reno, but I've been to Vegas and I doubt that it's much different, weatherwise. You won't get all four seasons there, at least not like we experience them in the Northeast. Vegas in January is about 60 degrees versus Philly in January at about 35. Other than that, I'm not much help as I've never been to Reno.
I also found a good article on Reno from which I will extract the quote: "Oh yes, and Reno experiences real seasons, including subzero temperatures and significant snowfall."

reno is really close to lake tahoe, so you'll love it if you ski/snowboard! i've been to south lake tahoe- it's absolutely gorgeous. reno is a little north and east of the lake. you will DEFINITELY experience all four seasons. when i've been to tahoe, the snow has been up to my waist at least!
i have a good friend who is moving to reno this fall (he got a job at the university of nevada). i already have plans to go up there in the winter so i'll know more about reno in a few months!
It has a lot of information, including weather stats (which, imo, still doesn't look like Northeast seasons which is what I associate with four seasons). Looks like some fluctuation, but still pretty temperate, although not as temperate as SoCal. So if you're used to SoCal weather, then this probably will feel like all four seasons to you. It does look like a nice place to live.
Thanks for the links D & Kenzie, I'll have to go back and take my time reading through them, I"ll keep y'all posted if my project is approved out there.
