Am I a bad friend?
Permalink Closed

My husbands best friend is getting married in September. We are both in the wedding. The bride and I became friends through hubby and his friend. We really enjoy spending time whith them, but it's hard because of work, families, and just the couple dynamics right now (we have kids they do not, wedding planning, etc.) So...the baclorette party is the end of the month. Well it's a BBQ with the boys of the bachelor party and then a night of bars etc, in the city.
I totally plan on going to the BBQ. But...I am not sure about the city. I hate to leave the girls with my in-laws for an overnighter, hubby is the best man and has to do the WHOLE bachelor party. I'm not sure physically I could handle a night of drinking and dancing, since it will only be a few weeks since surgery. Plus the family funds are low since my disability pay just dropped and we have other expenses related to the wedding, shower, dreess, tux, travel out of state (I am not complaining about that at ALL). But I feel really guilty, should I suck it up and go out all night?

I think that if you explained to your friend that you don't want to go because of health issues she would be understanding. You are showing up for part of it, and I think it's understandable to cut out early so as not to overdue it and risk health complications. Or at least that's what you can tell her.

I think it would be a lot worse if you force yourself to go when you obviously won't be enjoying it because you'll be thinking about your daughters, your health, etc. (totally understandable) but, could ruin the mood of the whole thing.

I'm sure your friend would totally understand if you explain it.

oh my goodness, you should not do that to yourself. maybe you could go to dinner and then leave? that way you'll at least show up and be there for her, but you are not in a position where it's healthy or fair for you to go out all night... any friend should understand that. don't be too hard on yourself.
