I HATE telemarketers...we usually have none because we have a broadband line, are unlisted & don't give out our number for any reason. I have one company that started calling a few weeks ago - every time I would answer it would hang up (apparently a glitch in their dialing circle). I called the number back earlier in the week. They told me they are calling about a "free" weekend at one of these timeshare deals. I told them I wasn't interested & to take me off the list. They called the next day - I did the same thing - called them back & told them not to call me again. Well, they just called AGAIN & I didn't answer because I was on a business call. What are my rights & how do I stop them from calling? My fear is if they have my number they will pass it on & this will be normal. Help!

PS - we are on "do not call" lists but I really don't know how much good that does.

If you specifically ask the company this is calling you to put you on their do not call list they cannot legally call you for 3years or that company can be sued or penalized by the FCC.  I know that they have a week to get you put on the do not call list in their system.


I am trying to find an article for you about it.  I will post one when I find it.  Good Luck I hate telemarketers!


ETA:  Here is what I found on the FTC's do not call list website:


A consumer who receives a telemarketing call despite being on the registry will be able to file a complaint with the FTC, either online or by calling a toll-free number. Violators could be fined up to $11,000 per incident.


I would threaten the company with that if they continue calling you.

I used to work for an agency and I *think* the telemarketers have 60 days to add you to their organizations DNC list.


If it has been 60 days since your first complaint to this company, I would definately escalate your concerns.

I used to get like 30 telemarketing calls a day until I got on the DNC list. It didn't totally stop it, but it greatly reduced the amount of calls. The ones who call "on behalf" of my creditors to offer me insurance still call frequently though. They won't hang up until you say no twice. Plus they won't let you get a word in until a few minutes into the call. I don't even wait until they're finished anymore to politely say no thankyou. I just hang up. I've got too much to do to waste even a few minutes. Telemarketing should just be illegal.
