Also, I know your DH hates prepackaged foods, but it's easier to learn with recipes that rely partly on packaged foods, like Campbells soup or frozen chicken strips, for example.

when I said that I meant whole meals that are prepackaged. There's no problem with using frozen chicken strips in something etc. I didn't know they had all that extra bad chemicals and stuff in them.

More very helpful things. You girls are so great! Thanks so much for helping!

I'm with you 110%.  I am not a good cook.  I do try (sometimes) but I'm very lucky that DH doesn't expect a lot from me when it comes to cooking.  Especially since I've gotten pregnant and am so tired by the time I get home from work.  I love the crockpot.  I'll put roast, potatoes, and carrots in there  and let them cook all day.  It's done and ready to eat by the time I get in from the office.  I may heat Corn on the Cob to go with it when I get home, but other then that - it's a pretty simple way of cooking and DH LOVES it. I also put porkchops in the crockpot and cover them with BBQ sauce and let them cook on low all day - they're awesome that way.  I do spagetti with salads about once a week, or at least once every two weeks.  He loves that too.  And then there's the soup (from a can) and grilled cheese sandwich days, not to hard to fix and pretty tasty! Oh, and then there's tacos - all you have to do if fry the meat (which I hate doing, makes me sick) and then add the toppings, DH likes those too.  I just look for meals that are quick and easy.  If DH wants more, he can figure out how to cook and I'll be glad to have whatever he fixes!

Oh, and don't feel like you have to finish every meal because your pregnant.  When I try to do that I get misreable.  Just eat what you can, quite when your full and try again in a couple hours.  I've found that eatting several little meals and snacks works 100 X better for me!

first off- let me preface this by saying that i don't cook.  i don't like to and i don't want to learn.

that being said- i have one tiny recommendation for you b/c i should never ever be giving someone advice in the cooking arena.  but (!) i have been present in many conversations with my 2 best friends who LOVE to cook and each and everyone of them has said that a meat thermometer has saved their lives when it comes to telling them when meat is done.

you can pick it up pretty much anywhere and set it to whatever particular meat you are cooking... my friend showed me it and if i ever get the notion that i would like to try to cook- i'll probably pick one of these up!

good luck!  cooking is hard- thats why i gave up and let the BF do all the work now!

of course, since he cooks, i clean... so its a fair trade off in the end.

here's something EASY and healthy to put on the side.  asparagus.  boil about 2 or 3 inches of water, drop in your asparagus just until bright green.  immediately throw the spears on a hot pan, squeeze lemon juice, sprinkle some olive oil, salt and pepper and toss for a few minutes.  It's a yummy way to prepare asparagus, it's super fast, and it's really healthy.

would your DH consider breaded chicken to be unhealthy?  I like to pair the asparagus with breaded or grilled chicken....  of course, with the breaded recipe, I use plenty of butter... and like D, never ever margarine.

good luck!

I just wanted to echo what everyone else has said.  Try not to be too hard on yourself & ask your hubby for some patience and a little collaboration and I'm sure things will work themselves out for you.  I also wanted to suggest Dream Dinners, if there is one by you (not sure where you live).  They offer all the ingredients for dinners and they have intro classes too.  You go there and put your dinners together then freeze at home until you're ready to prepare.  Some of the meals come with side dishes or if not then they suggest good food pairings.

They used to have this introductory offer where you pick three of their meals (which serve 4-6) for $49.50.  You get all the ingredients and they come frozen.  This is their website:

www.dreamdinners.com

It might be worth trying once, and you can also get ideas from their menus.

HTH!

Well I've been following the idea of making meals with a meat, a vegetable, and a starch and that makes it sooo much easier. I haven't gotten a meat thermometer yet but I have to make a trip to Target in the next couple of days so I'll look for one while I'm there. That seems to be my only hang up for now but I've just been trying to alternate hamburger meat and different forms of chicken so it doesn't seem like I'm fixing the same meat over and over. Thanks for all the tips- I found a few things on the allrecipes and I will have to try fixing the asparagus with the chicken you were talking about RAR. It sounds yummy
