what brown boots do you own?
Permalink Closed

I'm in the market for a new pair of tall brown boots for the winter, to wear to work with skirts. The ones I got last year aren't that comfortable, plus I'm tired of them already.

So, I'm wondering what your favorite boots are that fit this criteria (tall, work appropriate). Whether you own them or if they're on your wish list, I would just like to get ideas.

TIA

last year i tried some j.crew kitten heels that ended up being WAAAAAAAAAAAY too big in the calves.  this year i found a pair that i like from them so we'll see if they work.  i keep on trying j.crew boots because i bought some about 4 yrs ago that still look good and are really comfortable and were only $99!

not to hijack your thread, but does anyone know if j.crew sends out clearance catalogs still?  i remember getting them in h.s.  i'm just not that impressed with j.crew's online sale section and i remember the catalogs being better.

I have a pair of knee-high stiletto boots from BCBG in chocolate brown. I can't even explain how gorgeous they are. I bought them off Bluefly one day when I was feeling annoyed with this guy I was seeing-- and 2 and half years later, I'm still with that guy. What do you know? :)

Anyway, the boots are beautiful and I tried to find a picture online but I couldn't. But they are SO ridiculously uncomfortable. There are so many times I want to wear them but can't because they render me unable to walk after about an hour of wear. I've never bought any other BCBG shoes, but based on this experience, I would advise you to avoid BCBG boots.

those kitten heeled boots were an absolute lifesaver for me!

I am going to try some Fryes at Nordies. I need flat boots since I walk so much. If all else fails, I may purchase the J. Crew riding boots. I almost always buy from J. Crew because their sizing in boots is pretty consistent and I know I can wear their extended calf comfortably.

I swear my calves aren't that big!

Banana Republic makes some really comfortable, pretty boots...I bought the Zoe flat riding boots in cognac last year and have a black pair with heels from the year before. Both held up well to lots of walking and were under $180.

I think Ebay is a good place to look for either BR or J.Crew new boots if you know your size. I learned that too late but I'm probably going to go that route this fall/winter instead of retail.

i am wondering if maybe they sent me the extended calf version because i have runner's calves and they're not small by any means in fact some boots are even close to being too tight in the calves.

i'll try this year's version because i really want them to work out.

i've also bought a lot of nine west ankle/mid calf boots for wear and tear (think snow, rain, etc..) that i really like for the price.  i am rough on them and even though i have to replace them every 1 yr. to 1.5 years, they're great, especially for the price.

in the past for knee high boots i like kenneth cole and kenneth cole reaction as well as DKNY.

It's possible, but I remember trying on the regular ones and being surprised that I could zip them up 50% of the way. Most shafts are so small that I can only get 25% of it zippered. The extended calf actually has a bit of room (maybe 1/4 in?) on my otherwise impossible-to-fit calves.

back to the topic at hand...i forgot to count my Frye boots in saddle.

Colette, I want your Choos, but I'd have to have half the muscle surgically removed from my legs first.

I just have to add another plug for J.Crew boots.  I love, love, love them!  All my boots from J. Crew have been super comfy, and I walk at least 3 miles in them just to get to work.  Plus, I think they are really nice quality for the price.  My cobbler always comments on how nice the leather is.

I'll jump on the JCrew wagon here. I bought a pair four season ago and they are still fabulous. And they weren't too expensive, either.

I have these from Target last year, and I really like them! They are pretty high, but comfortable, and they don't look terrible on my chickeny legs (they're stretchy faux-suede). They will probably have something similar this year:

I also have these:

I got them for $9.99 (on sale!) and they're pretty great for the price. They have a similar style again this year.

I bought some brown BCBG cowboy boots last year that I wore alot thru fall and winter. Love them. I also bought some booties by Franco Sarto, that will be conviently more in style for this year. I just thru out some square toe ones( nine west) that I thought were too worn out and dated looking. I would like to get some dressier ones this year with a bit of a heel.

Waaaaaaah!! I really like these J.Crew ones, they're pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, but they aren't even made in my size!
