anyone know anything about duvets?

My duvet is from Overstock.com (although it's not this one). I bought it about 3 years ago, and I love it!

There are lots of different types (and sizes) of duvets. Different weights are for different seasons, and there are all types of fillings, too. (The one you've chosen is an alternative to a down filling, which would be appropriate if you have had an allergic reaction to down in the past.)

You'll want to a get a duvet cover for it (for protection and a nicer look). Keep in mind the sizing of the duvet in relation to the cover (and, FYI, not many duvet covers come in the 88x88 size... that's the dimensions of mine, and I've had trouble finding them!). The Twin/Full/Queen/King labeling is not standard across all the brands, so be sure to figure out the exact measurements in inches. Honestly, you might want to choose the duvet cover before you picked a duvet to make sure you are able to have the look you want in your room.

As for ordering from Overstock, pay careful attention to the reviews and you'll probably end up with a quality product (and keep in mind that returns are a bear).

Ooh, just thought of something else: a good tip to keep the duvet from shifting around inside the cover is to sew ribbons in the inside corners of the cover and on the corners of the duvet. Make a loop out of one set of the ribbons and use the other one to tie a nice little bow through the loop. The whole project only requires a needle, thread, and some fabric ribbon... it'll cost you less than 5 bucks and will take you less than 10 minutes.

I don't know if you have a sewing machine... but an easy and affordable way to get a duvet is to make one!

if your bed is a full size- grab 2 queen size flat sheets that you like, place back to back, sew three sides and then either make button holes on the 4th side or add ribbons and voila! you have a duvet for about $30 instead of $100-300!

and bex.. i had thought about making my duvet.. but i can't find sheets in the colors i'm looking for.. thanks though!

one more question... is a 90X90 duvet large enough for a deep queen mattress? or should i go for the king size duvet (102X90) so there is enough hanging off the sides? thanks!

My 88x88 duvet is on a regular-thickness full size bed, and I think the length is just right. Given this, you may want to opt for the king size (especially if you don't have a bed skirt).

If you want a more accurate picture of how it would look, measure the width of your bed, subtract that figure from the width of the duvet, and then 1/2 the resulting number to get the number of inches the duvet will hang off the sides of the bed. Put a sheet on the bed and, using a tape measure, pull the sheet down on one side the same length that the duvet would fall, then step away and see if it covers enough.
