Well, it's 4:15 & I'm going to see Mamma Mia tonight with a friend. We decided to both wear pants because she agreed to go with me but her only rule was that we didn't have to dress up. Well, now I am about to have a stroke. I have black "dressy" pants but all my other pants are uber casual or non-existent. Well, I don't know what in the hell I was thinking I'd wear but I just went to figure it out & I have literally NO summer shirts that aren't tshirt-y. I have a few 3/4 length sleeve tops I can wear, but it's Texas & 90+ degrees.

So I'm at a loss. I have the black pants, and this crochet deal (below) that I can wear over any color tank imaginable & cool shoes (have cool black, bronze, plus leopard & my black/orange/brown ones I posted in TS in addition to 50 other pair I could wear).....

Help! The only thing I have close enough to run to after work & still make it is...gulp.....Walmart or Cato. I guess I could stop on my way to her house but then I'd be in a total rush & I'm not entirely sure I can shop that way. Then there would be the shoe issue - would I have the right shoes with me....HELP

I also have a pretty pink vintage lace bedjacket but it has kind of a brown undertone - I wish i had a damn picture. But i don't.

Well, I would go with a black tank if you want to wear your crochet thingy and some cool shoes.  I guess I wouldn't stress too badly.  Would your friend flip if you wore a dress or skirt?

ETA: I would keep all black underneath the crochet thingy to make that the focal.  I would fear looking too choppy otherwise.

Well, the jeans thing - I just wonder myself how dressed up everyone else will be if she assumed that the occassion would be "dressed" & she's been there & I haven't. And I don't want to feel uncomfortable if some people are really dressed up - I feel like the black pants route is safe either way....

Also all my skirts are as casual as my pants (work from home) so the only dress I'd feel comfortable in is strapless & pretty dressy....so I think yes she'd flip if I wore that - plus I really feel like I'm trying too hard when I put it on which makes me wonder if I'll EVER wear it....

I also found a silky aqua tank that I may wear but it shows my arms & that also makes me uncomfortable. Why didn't I actually PLAN for the only night out I'll have for a while???

it's a pretty casual/participatory thing - you might be ok, but you can play it safe too.

how about this outfit:

this brown target crinkle cami under the lace shrug with your black pants and bronze shoes?

OR this white top and these shoes with your black pants? - include the orange bag

Hmmm, interesting. I'm going to try on a few variations of this & see how I feel.
Of course I may end up in head to toe black too (or the black / ivory / leopard shoes option) - depends on how chunky I'm feeling

You girls rock.

I really like the last suggestion detroit made.  I think that would work perfect.  Let us know how it turns out :)

This one gets my final vote too - simple, flattering, not too dressy, and stylish.

I love this idea. Of course I'm partial to mixing black and brown right but I think it would look hot and be dressy enough for a show.

In case anyone cares I ended up in this. I SOOO shouldn't have worried about it - the people there were dressed all over the board. It was so much fun!!! Thanks again. I'm tucking away the other ideas too for another day!

I care!

I had a feeling people would be dressing across the board. I've never been to one, but I've gone to other participatory "plays" like that and it's pretty casual.  Glad you had a good time!
