Summer in the Hamptons

...well, not really. But what would you wear to a bachelorette party with this theme? The agenda is a cocktail party at a hip, chichi hotel , then a party bus to some Scottsdale clubs, then back to aforementioned hotel. It will be hot and nasty outside but probably freezing indoors due to air-conditioning overdrive.

Any ideas?

hmm...all i know about the hamptons is it's that ritzy place that ritzy ny'ers go to escape the heat in the summer.  so i'm thinking preppy chic.  like maybe an all white outfit, either a fitting all white eyelet dress, maybe something like this but shorter (it is a bachelorette after all):

T0LB1 Eyelet Dress 375.00

or maybe a white halter cable knit sweater (my friend just got one for ten bucks @ the gap, wish i could find a pic) with white capris/gauchos/pedal pushers and a white l/s cable knit sweater tied around your shoulders, what do you think?

I saw the title of this post and was like "Ooooh Halleybird is going to the Hamptons for the *whole summer* after hitting Europe! I wonder if anyone would notice if Halleybird suddenly had short dark hair and weighed like 30 more pounds." Hee hee.

Love Esquiress' suggestion of the white dress, but I would go more "exotic" with accessories rather than preppy. My idea of exotic is like wood bangles and stuff, though.

here is a magazine on Hampton style -- I found the intro paragraph on this woman amusing for some reason:

ETA: I peeked at a past issue and came across these party pics -- halleybird - you should take halley with you!

The first thing that popped into my head was all white too, maybe because Diddy has an all white party in the Hamptons. Do get some inspiration since someone mentioned preppy chic, I would look at:
Ck Bradley
Tory Burch

Just a white dress would be really cute, you could add a black cardigan for indoors and then some fun colored jewelry!

Off topic, but that article was so hillarious-without-meaning-to-be-hillarious, detroit.  The intro paragraph was great, but the best was the quote, "Bensimon girls have manners.  Bensimon girls have fun."  And really?  Monogrammed jeans?  People do that?

I'd go with a hot dress in a preppy color and made of a light, "Oh my god is it sooooo hot" kind of fabric.  And for chilly indoors, bring a fringed shawl.

Laundry by Shelli Segal Bubble Halter Dress

Nicole Miller Satin Empire Sheath Dress

Splendid V-Neck Dress

(tons of heavy jewelry with this one)

Phoebe Print A-Line Halter Dress with Charmeuse

(if you were going more with traditionally preppy)

I might stay away from anything all-white, though, since you might get mistaken for the bride when ya'll are out and about.

what - you don't monogram your jeans?

I loved this too: "For fitness, Kelly rides three times a week and works with a trainer twice a week. “And there are lots of squats,” she says. “Too many squats.” She eats orange slices “all day long” as well as rice and beans, and a turkey sandwich for lunch."

finally someone who's honest about their diet - including the blurb about breakfast and how her kids eat and she has coffee. I'm not buying the turkey sandwich though - it's probably a small one...

I'd wear this dress:

Donna Morgan Embroidered-Dots Tiered Dress Donna Morgan Embroidered-Dots Tiered Dress
It's made of cotton so that's a plus for the heat, and the dots are cute and fun.

eeee....such great ideas, you guys! I am going to start shopping this weekend and check out some of this stuff in person. The party is next month, so I have some time. If anyone has other ideas, let me know!

detroit- that article was awesome. This was my favorite part:

"Then it’s upstairs to the playroom for tutoring and art class—Kelly goes to Sagg Pond Farm to ride her horse. “I love to drive my beat-up old Dodge Ram truck there. I fit right in.”  (Riiiiiight.)

Ha!  I noticed right away too.  I think it's a mix of too much sun, no makeup, thin lips, and bushy eyebrows

this post was hilarious considering I spent last weekend at the Hamptons (my first time ever going there--I have always avoided it). It is unbelEEEEEvably WASP-y. My friends were saying that there are these old-school "beach clubs"--like country clubs, I guess--that Jews and everybody who's not white somehow mysteriously don't get accepted to. Everyone's suggestions are so right-on... apparently the boutiques are wall-to-wall Lilly Pulitzer.

I just thought of something...

Calypso would be a good place to go for inspiration as well. It's more bohemian island-y, but Hamptons girls seem to swear by this to supplement the Lilly.
