Just wanted to bump up. I went to my new ob/gyn 2 days ago for my annual checkup and we talked about this vaccine. Her impression is that anyone who wants it should get it esp if insurance covers it. She also thought that within the next 10 years they will be expanding the age groups and giving it to boys.
I just went to see my doc last week, and this is what she said too.  She also said that I should consider getting it sometime while it's still covered by insurance (I still have 4 years before I reach the current age cut-off), just in case I should ever find myself in a situation much further down the line where it would have been handy to have gotten (and when I could no longer be eligible/covered due to age).  So, I'll be re-evaluating in 4 years or so .

My doctor's main thinking was in line with yours - the whole further down the line if something could have been prevented by this shot I'd wish I would have gotten it type thing.

I am on the edge of the age bracket (I'll be 26 in Sept eek!) so I figured I'd better start it now. It wasn't too bad of a shot. I had brief numbness in that arm for about 2 minutes and then arm soreness for the rest of the day but that was it. Nothing like that darned tetnus shot that kills me for days after getting it.

I just got this the other day. The weird thing was when it went in I felt a sudden surge in my arm. Not exactly painful, but severely unpleasent. I figured the nurse was just really violent with the shot, but when I looked over I saw that it was spring-loaded!

I thought about this today, though: my last pap was this past July. My BF wanted to wait to have sex in the beginning, so we didn't have sex until August. But before the shot, my gyno didn't ask me if I'd slept with anyone new or anything. My BF hadn't slept with anyone before me, so I know personally that I dont' have a problem there, but my gyno never asked or anything. I mean, I could've slept with 100 different HPV-infected guys between my last exam and when I got the shot. Did anyone else have to get a new pap right before the shot?

Nope to the new pap. Basically my doctor said the chances of someone having all 4 strains of the HPV disease in this shot is slim so while it might not be completely effective if I had a strain I would still get some protection from it. I did have my annual pap that same day and just got the results yesterday (normal) but I thought you couldn't tell if someone had HPV from a pap anyways.

crap, you're probably right. I don't know why I always think that...every few months I think I relearn the fact that a pap doesn't test that, but I always keep forgetting. Blech!
