What do you wear to a movie premiere?

My BFF just found out that they have tickets for the James Bond premiere in London - it's not until November but naturally she is already freaking out on what to wear. She has a pretty hefty budget - like thousands of dollars is ok - and she was thinking she'd need to be dressed up like an awards show. After researching for a day & a half, she is finding a bunch of pixs of movie premieres & they range from uber casual (new Pirates movie) to kind of glam but still only cocktail-ish. Let's face it, this is her one shot to buy some super ridiculous outfit. So she is wanting Valentino & is planning a trip for us to shop in Vegas in the fall (in the meantime she has sent me 10 emails with different designers so I'm guessing she is open now). I'm so excited to spend someone else's money! I guess my question is - if it were you - what would you do? Go for something completely outrageous & have fun? Be discreet? It's not like she can call up someone else & ask them what to wear! Ideas? Have you ever been to a premiere? If so what was it like? I figure if anyone would know it's the ST girls!

ooh fun!

I have no idea, but my thought process is James Bond= martinis= cocktail party. So I would wear a coctail type dress. Maybe something on the understated side but still fabulous. And killer shoes.

Since it's London, she can probably get away with something on the funkier side too. I'm thinking a dress by Velentino, Dolce Gabbana or Versace... kind of channel Victoria Beckham on one of her classier days.

I've been to one movie premiere and several screenings.  Everyone tends to dress pretty casual chic - jeans or pants and a cute top.  But that's in L.A. and since it is in London and a great reason for her to get a fabulous outfit, I'd say splurge.  But she definietely doesn't want to be too showy or overdressed - the paparazzi will wondre if she's in the movie


How fun! a trip to vegas to shop!

I've been to several movie premieres and special screenings. In LA, I think it's dictated by the genre of the movie. I've gone to mostly kiddie/family film premieres so everyone's wearing jeans and trendy tops because they're so casual.


I think James Bond calls for a glam cocktail dress though, especially in London. That said, has she gone for Cavalli or Versace yet? My personal taste doesn't run to their stuff initially, but movie premiere screams something funky and flashy.

So if I was not in the movie going to the James Bond premier, I would not wear anything glamorous. Mostly because I wouldn't look like I was trying to be a poser or just in case they are more laid back attire.


If I had said budget, I'd go for a short dress with tights and boots since I'm guessing it's going to be chilly out.  I think they have a Bond girl vibe too!
