I'm going to be balancing school & work with a tight schedule and only a short amt of time to eat; any suggestions on what I can bring so I dont fill up on junk food and fast food? I'd like to eat healthy. This would include breakfast/lunch/dinner ideas.

I guess it depends on where you work, but I just discovered these things today by Dole I think, they're little plastic cups of fruit. They seemed kind of expensive, about $1.50 for one and it's only a serving. I only loaded up because they were on sale and I'm in the same boat. Maybe you could use them if you have a refrigerator(?) at work? Otherwise I don't know, granola bars, dried fruit, etc? I can't think of anything you can eat "on the go" that isn't snacky... but if you're just in a hurry to get out the door, fruit of course is always good because when you're done you can just throw the core or peel out the window because it will rot so quickly

Thanks for the Dole fruit cup suggestion. I should have clarified: I'll be in school in the a.m. and then working in an office w/access to a fridge & kitchen in the p.m. (with a half hour break).

I'm all about convenient foods, especially on the go.


In the mornings I pop in a whole grain, flax-seed waffle while I'm getting my food/snacks prepared. When the waffle is done, I put on a bit of whipped pb (lower in fat and calories than regular, reduced-fat, and natural pb).


For lunch I pack a Campbell's lentil soup (or any kind - I just like the lentil variety) that you heat up in the microwave. I try to keep plastic spoons at my desk at work but sometimes I throw one in my bag, just in case I'm out. It's super quick, convenient, and tasty.


My snacks include: celery with hummus or the laughing cow light cheese wedges (don't have to be refrigerated so they're super convenient to carry around); reduced-fat string cheese; nuts - usually almonds but whatever suits you; sometimes I put some fruit in little containers so they're easy to carry around; and snack bars - for me it's usually something South Beach but you could do whatever.


There are tons of convenience foods out there right now but to be on the health-conscious side, it takes a little preperation and planning. Invest in some small containers and split things up into 5 servings so you can just grab them and go in the mornings.

I really like to snack on baby carrots and/or sugar snap peas.  I like how they don't need to be washed or cut up -- all I do is throw some in a zip lock baggie.  Its healthy and a great way to get in a serving of veggies.

I am obsessed with these. I am sure they aren't exactly "healthy" but they keep me from being hungry for several hours, b/c they're mostly nuts.
