Tampons/ TSS question

Yesterday, somehow I left a tampon in for like 9 hours, and now I'm all paranoid that I'll get TSS. Should I be worrying about this? Has anyone ever done that? (leave a tampon in too long I mean). I don't know how I forgot about it. Btw, I'm 21, although this post makes me sound about 13.


I know all the symptoms of TSS, so I'll be looking out for that - flu-like syptoms.

I've left tampons in for WAY longer than that. Nothing ever happened to me. I've never known a "real life" person who has gotten TSS.


Based on that.. I think it is fairly unlikely that you would get it.


But maybe I am being completely ignorant.... :)

I have had friends and roommates who have left it in for 24+ hours with no long term side effects. I think you'll be fine.


but then I could be really ignorant and sound like I'm 13.

If it makes you feel better, I'll tell you my sound like I'm 13 story - one night I went out & got DRUNK! The next morning I couldn't remember taking out my tampon before inserting another one & got extremely paranoid about it. To the point that I went to my gyno & made him give me an examination! I was SOOOOO embarassed. And now writing this I am again, but thought it might make you feel better!

*for the record the doctor told me i was being ridiculous & it couldn't get stuck in you & it didn't have anywhere to go. Seriously, I was like 23 & should have known better.....

Thank you so much! That makes me feel much better. I just remember in the 5th grade, when they start giving you "the talks" they made it sound like TSS was much more common. I feel a lot better now (if a bit embarassed!).

haha it's okay, I've definitely left tampons in for way longer than that. I've never died yet!

I've left them in for way longer too, no biggie. I've also accidentally forgot to take one out before putting another one in. Talk about ouch! Figured that one out pretty quickly.

my friend did that exact same thing after a night of heavy drinking at prom.  her uptight mom was not too happy about that trip to the doctor.
