Anybody from San Francisco?
Permalink Closed

Hey SF girls,

I am here in San Francisco for a sales conference and we get a "free" night one night this week.  Can you give me the lowdown on where I can find some good shopping (I am especially looking for boutiques and specialty shops).  My hotel is near Union Square in downtown SF and I don't have car.  Thanks!

You lucked out... Union Square has every store imaginable. All the designer boutiques and department stores are there.

Yup. Seriously..just walk up and down the streets around where you're staying and you'll find TONS of stuff.

Not from SF, but was there last summer and really like the boutique/consignment shops on Filmore and Polk St. I don't remember the names of all of them but some of the places that I liked were:

Nest on 2300 Fillmore St. (carries home goods;very Anthropologie style), Crossroads (1901 Fillmore St., consignment shop), Erica Tanov (2408 Fillmore St., super $$ but lovely silk pieces), Cris Consignment (on 2056 Polk St)

I wanted to go to a store called My Roomate's Closet where the designer clothes are half off of what you'd find in retail, but i never got the chance! Anyhow, here's their address: 3044 Fillmore st (tel 415.447.7703).  Also, not quite sure if it would be your style, but there are also a lot of funky/edgy shops on Haight St.

Have a great time!!

Thanks girls!  I found some shopping tonight-I was good and didn't buy a thing though.  I just can't focus when I shop with other people plus we only had about an hour anyway.  I guess that was a good thing though...

On another note, and I know this controversial but I will say it anyway-how do you deal with the panhandling here?  I know SF is known for this but it is really out of control these days.  Today, I stepped outside every hour or two during our meetings and talked with a few of my co-workers as they smoked and every single time we were approached by beggars.  I feel bad saying no to them but I just don't feel as if I would be doing them a favor by giving them money. I have never seen so much of this in my life!  I mean, I think I was approached about 20 times today for money and I was outside for a total of less than an hour!!!  I don't know how people who live here deal with this.  Just had to get that off my chest...

I don't think I've ever really been approached. Usually there is enough of a crowd around where a beggar can't single me out. Plus, I'm usually walking, with my eyes straight ahead, and I just ignore them.

Market Street is the worst, there's all sorts of weirdos there. And yes, SF is the worst I've seen. I don't remember ANY beggars during the two times I have been to NY.
